Variety say that Jude Law is “close” to agreeing a deal to become Dr. Watson, SHERLOCK HOLMES’ often small, chubby and occassionaly bumbling sidekick in Guy Ritchie’s new take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic character.
Though of course that stereotype looks to have gone from Ritchie’s version if Law is the kind of man he is after. I can’t imagine Law would take on the sidekick part, usually donned by character actors or D-list stars, so you really have to presume that the role will be bigger. More of a partner, than sidekick. And better looking than usual too…
The Warner Bros. picture has Robert Downey Jr. to lead as the super sleuth (and in this case martial arts expert) with Ritchie fav Mark Strong playing the villain, who we believe will be Blackwood rather than Prof. Moriarity who it seems will only make a fleeting appearance, or will just be mentioned in the background for a sequel.
