Josh Brolin as Snake Plissken?

Probably not, it’s an easy rumor to put together because…

A) We know New Line spent the majority of 2007 trying to get this project off the ground as they have a script they love for the remake.

B) Josh Brolin is the f’n man right now and he has the stature and acting sensibilities of an 80’s Kurt Russell.

Spielberg News carry the story and as the site is foreign, their scoop translates like this…

“It is our scoop of the week. A source close to the production (if so) has assured us that it is now Josh Brolin to be in the running to take over the role of Snake Plissken in the remake currently in draft New York 1997.”

So Brolin for Escape from New York which is still without a director despite the attaching of both Len Wiseman and Brett Ratner last year?

I still say Kurt Russell is no way near as off the hill that he couldn’t come back and do a third movie himself, a both fitting farewell to the franchise than Escape from L.A. anyway. But if they absolutely, positively, just have to remake this movie… then Josh Brolin is a damn good choice.

Also adding a bit of juice to the story is that New Line is now owned by Warner Bros. who tempted to get Brolin on board for the fourth Terminator movie. We know the studio like him, but still this is a heavy rumor at this point… probably more likely to be false than true.

  1. Guess Christian Bale and Josh Brolin are the only two actors accepting parts in Hollywood.

Come on! I like JB as much as anyone else but when are these damned directors going to broaden their net?

And DiCaprio. That man’s booked for years.

I can totally see Josh Brolin in the role.

  3. I can see him in the part too. I’m just saying the talent pool has gotten pretty shallow when the same names keep coming up for everything.

In my earlier post I should have said, “When are these CASTING directors going to widen their net?” Quentin Tarintino and Spike Lee seem to be the only two guys in Hollywood who don’t use the same five or six folks over and over again.
