Wow, this 3 minute of footage from the new John Rambo film is shocking. It’s the bloodiest thing I’ve seen in ages.
According to the guys over at AICN, this is some unfinished footage that has been put together by Stallone to show distributors at Cannes early next week… but like he did with his Rocky Balboa release, he’s catering to readers of Harry Knowles site by putting it on their first.
You know, when Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez made Grindhouse this summer, I don’t think they nailed that type of cinema quite as well as Stallone. The second half of this trailer is just pure Grindhouse cinema. This is what the trailer (and probably the film, although I haven’t seen it) for The Condemned should have looked like.
I love the tone of this movie. This is exactly what it needed to be. Balls to the wall, and bloody as hell. I would prefer they don’t have too much of the documentary type drama that the trailer begins with because we have enough of that on our TV screens at the moment. We go to the cinema to escape shit like that.

Like you I think it looks pretty damn good. The bit where he shoots the guy point blank and he basically explodes is fantastic. I hope that is carried throughout the whole film and this could be some excellent entertainment.
Can’t wait for this movie! Falls somewhere between the dark and brooding narrative of First Blood and the stark-reality-of-war plot of Rambo II, without the cartoonish sillyness of Rambo III. Stallone has done it again. He can now retire after giving us two tremendous comebacks in one from two of his greatest creations…
Agreed! Thumbs up for me on this one too. I think it looks pretty darn good!
