Promo art for legend John Carpenter’s first movie in over SEVEN YEARS has hit the web. Shock Till You Drop carry a piece of exclusive promo art from next year’s film RIOT with the tagline “Uncaged 2009″ as sadly, Nicolas Cage is leading.
But not even that fact is getting me down. Carpenter (THE THING, HALLOWEEN, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13) is making a movie RIGHT NOW!
Previously titled SCARED STRAIGHT, the movie is a prison thriller about a lifer (Cage) who befriends a younger inmate on a short term “delinquent teens” sentence and shows him the ways of prison life.
The very early promo poster comes from the American Film Market expo.
Ron L. Brinkerhoff (THE GUARDIAN) wrote the screenplay with first time screenwriter Joe Gazam. The movie is currently in pre-production for a release next year.

As a massive Carpenter fan, I can’t wait! Only one reservation: will it be made by “Carpenter (THE THING, HALLOWEEN, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13)” or “Carpenter (ESCAPE FROM L.A, GHOSTS OF MARS)”? Time will tell, but I’m definitely glad that Ghosts is no longer his cinematic swansong even if Cage’s recent performances have been terrible…
I’m extremely skeptical of this. Carpenter hasn’t done a movie in years and now his comeback is with Nicolas Cage headlining? This just doesn’t sound very good to me. Plus the plot sounds like its going to be really cliched.
I just hope that Nicholas Cage is okay. I am not really a fan of his “style.”
