Joe Carnahan says he’s seen Sin City 2 trailer!!

poster_sincity4_lg.jpgOne of the great things about Joe Carnahan is that he runs his own blog, so he can keep us up to date on everything about his films, something I wish a lot of directors would do. Another good thing about him though is that he is a film fan at heart.

Do you remember his rant at America for not seeing Grindhouse, and telling us that “we will all pay the price” when the movie fails? Well he’s back again, this time with his film fan hat on… to tell us about the Sin City 2 mock-up trailer he has apparently been shown by Robert Rodriguez

“Robert Rodriguez stopped by the office yesterday and showed me what may become the teaser for ‘SIN CITY 2′ and HOLY SH*T is it something. I don’t want to let any cats out of any bags, so all I can say is there’s not a hetero male moviegoer alive that’s not going to deeply DIG that spot…Remember, he’s doing ‘A Dame To Kill For’ and brother has he got it. That guy’s enthusiasm for filmmaking is infectious too. A solid bloke and a good soul.”

Carnahan may have seen anything ranging from a full mock-up scene to a rushly made trailer but we all know how quick Rodriguez works so I’m betting on a full scene.

Remember that roof-top scene at the beginning of Sin City with Josh Hartnett? That was shot in a day with his green screen and digital photography many months before he even had rights to film the material he was shooting… and of course legend has it that said scene convinced Frank Miller to do the film.

We keep hearing rumblings about production beginning in June, but we have heard nothing official yet.

I love Joe Carnahan’s work. Narc is one of my favorite movies. I also agree with him that the failure of Grindhouse will only make studios mroe risk-averse. That means more remakes and adaptations and less original material. More fluff geared toward the barely-literate 13 year-old crowd who seem to be the only ones going to the theaters anymore. More crap, in other words.

BTW, I’ve got the Sin City and according to an interview with Miller himself Robert invited him to watch the making of the Josh Hartnett intro and it was indeed seeing that (and Rodriguez’ agreeing to let Miller direct) that convinced Miller to say yes.

BTW I had big hopes for Smokin’ Aces and was disappointed when that film didn’t perform too well. That said I still look eagerly forward to Carnahan’s next movie.
