Rob Cohen is the latest blogging director and he’s utilised the medium to good effect in promoting The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emporer. I really enjoyed the first Mummy, the second was utter pants, and The Scorpion King is probably the worst movie I’ve ever paid to go and see.
Nevertheless, I expect Brendan Fraser to be as charming and likable as ever and with Maria Bello they have as good a replacement for Rachel Weisz as they could probably get (or afford).
The latest still from the production shows Jet Li executing an airborne kick that would put Chuck Norris to shame!

will just be glad you didn’t pay to see Swimfan, or Fear dot com. Both much worse than scorpion
Did the Chinese mummify bodies?
Either way still anxious to see this one.
The Scorpion King worst film you ever paid to see?
Say what?
It’s one of the greatest ’switch off brain and enjoy’ movies ever!
Professor Chaos–
Yes, the Chinese did do “mummification” in some cases. It wasn’t nearly as sophisticated as the Egyptians, but it did qualify as mummification nonetheless. The Aztecs mummified peolpe too and their mummification was on par with the Egyptians and was often even better. In fact the oldest mummy ever found was in Mexico among the Aztecs. It was something like almost 2,000 years older than the oldest found mummy in Egypt.
The oldest found mummy in Africa however wasn’t in Egypt, it was in the Sudan. A 12 year old boy, in fact. (Intersting side note –there are almost twice as many pyramids in Sudan as there are in Egypt)
There were a number of ancient civilizations all over the world that practiced some form of mummification, except for the Asiatics and the Europeans.
I thought Jet li said he wasn’t going to do another martial-arts flikc after Hero.
Guess he meant he wouldn’t do one unless there was more money in it for him. And BTW I loved Mummy 2 more than the first.
Ah ok. Thanks for the info JaySmack.
Now I can help you. Jet Li was kind of misquoted in what he said. He never said he’d do another martial arts film period. But he said he was done with “Epic” Martial Arts films. Meaning movies like Hero, Crouching Tiger, those type.
If The Scorpion King was the worst film I had ever paid to see, I would be a very happy man… and no film would have ever been rated below 2.5 stars!
Jet Li flying high in martial arts action: I’m happy. The liable Brendan Fraser back in wannabe-Indiana Jones get-up: I’m happy. Campy archaelogical sets and supernatural silliness: I’m happy.
This photo fills me with optimism. I’m pretty psyched about this one…
JaySmack,
Jet Li was misquoted/mistranslated a lot over that comment. What he actually said is that he didn’t want to do any more period Manchu era style movies like Once Upon A Time In China, Hero, etc.
He’s happy doing martial arts as long as it’s something different. The last one he did was Fearless, btw, not Hero :)
