And…Here…We…GO!
I’m not a good enough writer to tell you how good this trailer looks – even in shitty youtube quality. I can’t do it justice… the moment that Batman flies out of that Hong Kong building at the beginning (I think that’s what it is anyway), I know this movie is going to rule in IMAX.
This is the best look and sound so far of Heath Ledger as The Joker and it’s not as crazy a performance as the first trailer made it out to be. His voice can be a lot slower… a lot more subtle and sinister – it works terrifically well. It kinda sends a chill down your spine.
The dialogue here is incredible. The Nolan’s have some of the best lines I’ve heard in any Batman medium for years (the city deserves a better class of criminal is so true for what they are trying to depict here)… and they haven’t just copied lines from The Long Halloween or The Killing Joke.
The only thing I don’t like is Maggie Gyllenhaal trying to be Katie Holmes – instead of being Maggie Gyllenhaal. You might as well have kept Katie Holmes for that.
Oh and another thing. One of the big cast members is fucked for this movie. Said person won’t be surviving – I think you can probably make it out if you use you head from watching the trailer and piece together things we know.

No problem Matt.
I loved the opening. Showing once again how much of a larger scope we’re going to be seeing in this films as compared to that of BB. I agree about Joker. I didn’t expect him to sound like this. I guess he just talks the way he wants depending on what’s happening. I think Katie might as well have stayed. I hope this love triangle isn’t that big of a deal. Harvey in the limo holding a gun with only half of his face showing is awesome.
July feels so much farther now.
I didn’t catch harvey w/ a gun or Scarecrtow, but I did plainly see joker shove rachel off a building! Heath is brilliant…”here’s my card…”-awesome,awesome,awesome.
It’s such a shame to think their main guy in this movie is actually dead! what a waste, it certainly looks like this may have been his best role ever aswell. He really does seem to have become someone else in this film.
“Here’s my card”
You see Harvey at 2:10-2:11. I didn’t see Scarecrow.
My initial thoughts:
- I am even more saddened at Heath’s death. What promise this young man had as an actor! It’s hard to believe, while watching this trailer, that the man behind this Joker is the same person who so vividly brought Ennis Del Mar to the screen as well. THE DARK KNIGHT will be a bittersweet experience, for sure.
- Gyllenhaal’s performance is all chopped up, so we can’t really see it well. Wait for the film on this one. Holmes has zero onscreen magnetism, while Maggie is the real deal. Let’s face it – this is not a movie about romantic subplots and subtle female characters; it’s about revenge and redemption. Maggie’s character is, by necessity, shallowly written. However, look for Maggie to bring much more weight to the role than Holmes could ever imagine.
- While there seem to be quite a few action shots in this trailer, I am growing concerned that the film has only one or two major action pieces in it. Given the running time – as well as the fact that this is not an origin film – a lot of talking and mumbo-jumbo is not a healthy idea for this franchise. We are all excited by Nolan’s take on the character, but I am definitely not interested in the character enough to warrant sitting through two hours of everyone talking about being a hero. Just sayin’.
- Some fabulous, realistic shots of Batman flying here. The one thing that always bothered me about any incarnation of Batman was the depiction of flight; he never seemed to be as mobile and agile as the comics. Nolan has really used the medium well to depict this Batman as someone lethal and very agile, and capable of stunning bits of flight.
- I didn’t see the Scarecrow anywhere, either. And to that, I say GOOD! The Scarecrow from the first film might be my least favorite villain from ANY superhero film EVER. And yes, that includes the makeup villain played by Sharon Stone in CATWOMAN.
This is my movie this year TDK and Iron Man. I dont see the hype really on Ledger but maybe Im biased because Im more into Batman and Gordon. Would love to see Bane and Azrael in Nolan’s world. Katie is so much better than Maggie in looks and acting skills. Sure Maggie has more script to work on but that’s all. I can see Katie leaving because this type of genres makes the boys rule and its a backburner roles for women.
Heath Ledger is God. Period.
Maggie totally sucks = dog meat in a dress. And, she cannot even act. I think I can pass on this Batman. Whoever decided to cast her must be NUTS…………. I would rather watch her brother kissing Batman.
