Danish director Nikolaj Arcel will helm a Hollywood remake of his own 2007 action/adventure film Island of Lost Souls, one of the highest grossing picture’s in Denmark last year.
Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment are behind the project, with unknown scribe Jennifer O’Kieffe adapting.
The story centers on a suburban teen who finds herself a central player in a centuries-old battle between good and evil when her younger brother is possessed by the benevolent spirit of an 18th century magician.
Once again, one wonders why a theatrical release of a recent and evidently popular foreign language film couldn’t be re-released around the rest of the world with a heavy marketing campaign.
Pan’s Labyrinth did pretty good didn’t it?
