Ok, so the director and writers behind the new TERMINATOR movie may not be our cup of tea but holy crap, what a cast they are putting together.
The always great Christian Bale as John Connor and now Josh Brolin as The Terminator?
If only that JLA project had been cast so well.
That’s right, Brolin who was amazing last year in PLANET TERROR, AMERICAN GANGSTER and NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN looks to be the guy McG wants to fill Arnie’s massive shoes.
Here’s a response he gave to The-Two-One-Three when asked who he had in mind for the role in next year’s massive production…
“…And there’s guys out there like Russell Crowe and Eric Bana, bring a good physicality, they do what they do, but I don’t know if they’re exactly right at the end of the day. (Smiles) Josh Brolin is a very exciting actor - we’ll see.”
Brolin is a fabulous choice, even if he’s not an unknown like you maybe would like for the part. He can play it cold, he can play dark and menacing, he is perfect physically for the part with some extensive training and of course he is an extremely talented actor… which doesn’t hurt.
Sure his co-star from his last movie Javier Bardem would seem the more obvious choice after his thrilling portrayal of a truly menacing and memorable psychopath serial killer, but Brolin… man… just look at that photo above. I can see the character and the darkness hidden behind that forced smile.
McG also gave us an update on what’s going on with the project right now…
“We’re prepping the picture right now. The script is largely done, whether or not we’re able to prep off of it, obviously we want to continue to work on it, punch it up and we’re hoping for an expedient finish to the writer’s strike. But I’ve got my fingers crossed that in a week or two it will be over,”
He also tells us the new film will be set in 2019 and will be post-Judgment Day.
Keep those fingers crossed guys. Maybe there is still hope in this project yet.
