Is Brett Ratner directing GOD OF WAR?

It’s very rare these days when you stumble across a new video game that instantly smacks you in the face and screams MOVIE at you with every cinematic frame of it’s storytelling and action.

Well a couple of years ago, I was delighted to say that the Greek mythology game God of War was one such title. Reminiscent of the old Sinbad and Greek classics like Jason and the Argonauts, it was a multi-million dollar film franchise waiting to happen.

However, did I think whilst playing the game that Rush Hour director Brett Ratner would be the man to bring the vision to life? HELL NO!

Now let’s not get too flustered just yet, the news comes from a couple of sites which claim that Ratner has “hinted” that he might be working on adaptations of that video game in the future, so there is certainly nothing concrete just yet.

However one thing which has become abundantly clear is Ratner’s box office record and his quick shooting schedule and easy going work ethic has made him become a top studio target for blockbuster franchises. So his link here shouldn’t be off much surprise.

Sad because his films carry no hope of anything but complete vacancy for the reviewer who will feel a complete detachment from what is too often from him a film without merit. Let’s hope this is just all idol talk and we can look forward to a much more visually gifted and more assured storyteller taking the reigns on this one because this material deserves it.

The Rat directing God of War? God I hope not! And I think I read somewhere (maybe IGN) that one of the guys behind GOW thought Djimon Honsou would make the ideal Kratos.

I had to raise an eyebrow at that. First of all the guy can barely speak English, but on top of that…it’d be kind of hard for a 6′1″ Nigerian to pass for a 7 foot Greek.
But tell you the truth I actually like Ratner’s directorial efforts-except Rush Hour of course. He’s a hack who pretty much apes the styles of better directors’ but at least he isn’t Boll, Bay or Bruckheimer.
