Is a certain feline getting it on with Bats in 2009?
If you told me this time two years ago just after Batman Begins had wrapped I would have believed you. At one time it was certainly being suggested that the following two sequels to Batman Begins would be shot back to back, allowing for a larger scope and epic storyline which would revolve around The Joker and Harvey Dent’s development.
At one time, I was actually convinced that we would see a Batman movie in the summer of 2008, then another one again the following year, which also seemed to be of the benefit of Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale who could then move on to other things because I’m afraid to say it guys… but they won’t stay around doing this Batman gig forever.
When WB’s annouced The Dark Knight for 2008 and mentioned no third movie start date then obviously that was not going to happen. The next Batman movie probably will have the same three year gap as this one, with the next movie not hitting theatres till 2011.
Although a source for Batman on Film, actually got word over the weekend that Batman 3 could be out by Christmas 2009. I would say there’s a 95% chance that this is false, the only 5% of worth I put into this story is Nolan and Bale’s schedules…
Nolan has nothing confirmed on his future slate. Yes he was linked to directing a movie adaptation of the British show The Prisoner and he’s for a long time made it known he wants to adapt The Exec but none of these are set in stone. He could do another Batman quickly if they wanted.
Bale’s schedule is also rather quiet. He is only attached and far from confirmed as starring in Joe Carnahan’s Killing Pablo (which Carnahan himself might not even direct any time soon), so his schedule is clean too. He could do it if he wanted.
For it to come out in 2009, the movie would have to begin filming early next year… a long time before The Dark Knight has even hit theatres and ironically at the same time the Batman character will be filmed in the Justice League movie. A script I don’t think would be too much of a problem because my guess would be they already have a good outline mapped out of what they want to do in a third movie anyway. It will just be a case of joining all the dots together.
I’m still saying The Dark Knight will be the last Batman film this decade but I could be wrong.
Another interesting scoop is that Cinema Blend have heard from their most reliable source that Catwoman will be involved in that said third movie. This seems pretty accurate to me, although I believe Warner Brothers are hesitant in using the character again after the reputation of the character with the average joe after the 2004 film starring Halle Berry.
Catwomen is probably the fourth biggest costumed character in the Bat-universe after Batman, Robin and The Joker… so you had to kinda believe she would be making an appearance somewhere down the line. And she’s unlike Mr. Freeze or other such outlandish villains at that she’s quite adaptable to a realisitc real-world setting. You just need to read what Frank Miller did with her in Batman: Year One to see that.
So Catwoman in a Batman movie in 2009? Nah I can’t see it.
Catwoman in a Batman movie in 2011… I’d bet money on it.

This would actually be a great way for nolan/Bale to go with “their” Batman franchise. If they, and their acolytes are so d*mned preemptively p*ssed about what might happen with the JLA movie, then Nolan needs to get a freaking move on, and finish his precious trilogy.
I for one would love to see Halle playing the role again in a movie with a better script.

Hopefully they’ll recast Catwoman and not have Halle Berry, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she still had some kind of contract linked to the character. Weren’t they gonna put her into Batman Begins at one point?

Dave,
I don’t believe she was ever linked to Batman Begins. Infact, I’m pretty certain she would have been the last name on Warner’s list after the debacle of Catwoman.
Jaysmack,
You would really want to see Halle as Catwoman again? We are talking about the same woman here aren’t we? The one who totally killed every scene she has ever been in with the X-Men franchise.
Nolan needs to keep well away from Berry and everything she stands for.

Thanks but no thanks to Catwomen. We have seen the definitive Catwomen in Batman Returns, there is no need to revisit the character. I’m hoping to see this franchise taken in a different direction. I’m not convinced we need Two Face either, although I concede it’s too late. The Joker is unavoidable because he’s so iconic. This creative team is so strong and probably only has one film left in them after the Dark Knight, don’t waste it on some retread of the Penguin, Mr Freeze, Poison Ivy, Riddler, Robin etc. The story always suffers when these characters start getting shoe-horned into the plot.

“When production stalled in mid-2003, rumors circulated that Warner Bros. would scrap the project and instead incorporate the character of Catwoman into Batman Begins (2005), but with Halle Berry still in the role.” From IMDb.
Well thank god that didn’t happen.
Catwoman’s a fantastic character, I can’t wait to see what Nolan’s team does with her.

Catwoman would work fine in the Nolan Batman world because she has no special powers. If Bruce Wayne can fight crime dressed as a giant bat why not Selina Kyle dressed as a giant cat? As for casting I agree on no Halle Berry, Rachel Mcadams always gets mentioned for these type of roles but I would go for somebody a lower profile maybe Emily Blunt.
