IMAX prologue for U.K. showings of I AM LEGEND?
So the question we have been asking for the last couple of weeks is will the THE DARK KNIGHT prologue (well really, the first 5-7 minutes of next year’s film) which is attached to IMAX prints of I AM LEGEND, play in the U.K too?
This is an important question for us in the U.K. as the word is it won’t get a HD quicktime release online, so the only other way in Britain we would be able to see it is if it were bootlegged online (which it will) with likely poor quality.
Here’s Jett’s take from Batman on Film, THE SITE on the Internet for the latest Batman movie news…
THE DARK KNIGHT PROLOGUE IMAX update. From what I can gather, if I AM LEGEND is playing in an IMAX theater, then you’ll be able to see the prologue. That goes for the UK and Australia as well.
So then the next question for me is, what the hell I am going to do?
I’ve never been to an IMAX theatre. Come close on a few occasions on my travels around the world, but I’ve always been on vacation and never felt like seeing a movie (apart from GRINDHOUSE but that wasn’t in IMAX). There’s no IMAX cinema near me for AT LEAST a 2 hour drive. It might be more than that, I don’t know where the nearest one is.
According to WIKI, these are the IMAX cinema’s that exist in the U.K….
- Birmingham, IMAX Theatre, Millennium Point, Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum [132]
- Bournemouth, Sheridan IMAX Cinema, Pier Approach (closed, featured on Demolition)
- Bradford, IMAX Cinema, National Media Museum, [133]
- Bristol, IMAX-At-Bristol, At-Bristol, (Closed March 2007)
- Leicester, Space Theatre, National Space Centre (as part of an exhibit/attraction - only open to space centre visitors)
- London, bfi London IMAX Cinema, British Film Institute, [134]
- London, Science Museum IMAX Cinema, Science Museum, [135]
- Manchester, IMAX Cinema, Odeon Manchester, The Printworks, [136]
Which would make the Bradford cinema the closest to me, with a 2 hour+ drive.
Worth the trip?
Would anyone else drive for 2 hours to see a 5 minute piece, or is the thrill of seeing I AM LEGEND on the IMAX screen a big enough reward in it’s own right?
What is the IMAX experience like, for those of you who have experienced it?

Definitely go. I’m planning on making a three-hour journey to see this sucker myself.

My problem is that I won’t be in Manchester till January 15th at the earlier (what with the Christmas holidays and all) - so I am just hoping it will still be showing on IMAX by then (I believe they only have the one screen).

Matt,
I drove a 12 hour round trip to Chicago (same day, mind you) just to see Hostel: Part II a week before it came out. Well, Eli Roth was there, too. ;)
2 hours each way just to see the first 7 minutes of The Dark Knight? Well worth it, imo.

Bradford being a hopeless city are not showing I Am Legend in Imax. Makes you wonder why Imax exists there. Bradford is a horrible place.
