Hugh Jackman is going to be busting some ghosts, but not how you might think

My tired, weary eyes played tricks on me this morning as I was reading The Hollywood Reporter, so sure that it’s headline read “Hugh Jackman to haunt Ghostbusters”, believing that Harold Ramis and crew had managed to secure the huge star to play the movie’s villain in the soon to be officially, officially announced (i.e. not just a trade story) Ghostbusters 3.

Which made me so excited, I had to leave my bedroom and make me some breakfast. I had to try and calm myself down otherwise this post would have been full of “OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, WOLVERINE IS GHOSTBUSTERS VILLAIN”.

But after some sugar from my cup of coffee and my slice of jam on toast, I see the project the trade is refering to is Ghostopolis, an adaptation of an upcoming graphic novel from Doug TenNapel (the animator who created Earthworm Jim) which is setup at Disney. Not quite as cool and doesn’t quite have me geeking out so much, but still fun…

Jackman will play a guy who works for the government’s Supernatural Immigration Task Force (think Men in Black I guess), his job is to bust ghosts back into the world of Ghostopolis. So far so fun.

But then it gets a little trippy when the trades say he will team with a dead ex-girlfriend and to send a living boy back to Earth after he wrongly is sent to the other side. God, that could be awful.

No writer or director is yet attached.

Ghostopolis in graphic novel form is set to be released later in the year and I dare say after this news, TenNapel’s forum where he has been keeping fans up to date on the progress will now be flooded with activity.

Earthworm Jim is one of my favorite video games of all time. It was way ahead of it’s time. I’ll have to check out that graphic novel. I’ll wait and see a trailer before I say anything about the movie, has potential though. Any mention of a director or anything? I’m too lazy to click the link…

Sounds like fun. It’s a shame that Van Helsing never took off like it should have. imagine if say Guillermo Del Toro created and directed Van Helsing instead, anybody but Special Effect whore Stephen Sommers.
