Hostel: Part II trailer will be in German?

hostel.jpgStrange news of the day…. The trailer for Hostel: Part II which is attached to friday’s release of Saw III will be in German although the movie when released will be in English. It’s certainly a strange choice and might have been understandable if the movie was set in Germany but it’s set in Prague like the original.

Tim Palen the co-president of Lionsgate had this to say to Coming Soon“German is more guttural and harsh…. “I think a lot of people will be taken aback, but with the success of the first ‘Hostel,’ here will be no confusion as to whether the movie is in English.”

Weird. I’m not so sure that he is right either, I mean if I saw a trailer at the cinema in German then I’m going to think that movie is in German regardless of whether it’s Hostel 2 or not. Especially when Hostel 2 doesn’t have any A-List actors that you know aren’t German.

I really can’t see any benefit from this, it sounds like a dumb and pointless idea to me which is potentially more harmful than anything else. You don’t have to see Saw III to see the trailer either, as it should be online up at MTV tonight.
