Man oh man, I just know that so many people are absolutely going to hate this casting down to the ground. This is the most controversial thing Abrams has done so far on Star Trek (except the whole idea of a reboot), and that includes bringing back Leonard Nimoy as probably a big character in the film.
J.J. Abrams has cast the biggest movie star geek for the role of Scotty. 37 year old British actor SIMON PEGG… a.k.a. Shaun of the Dead, Detective Nicolas Angel… and the fat one in Run, Fat Boy, Run…
Now I love Simon Pegg, I think he’s a comic genius who can actually act and I love to see him do more dramatic action but who would have ever thought he would have become a crew member on the Enterprise?
I’m so shocked by this, I don’t think I can form an opinion. Will he be able to convince us that he is the one fuelling the ship and keeping it going whilst Kirk and his crew put it through dangerous situations.
Has he got the presence of James Doohan to convince us that if Scotty goes down… so does the whole ship.
Is he strong enough an actor to convince us that his character is vital to the crew?
Or is Scotty now going to be a joky side character, like his cameo in Mission Impossible III (which remember, was directed by Abrams). Will Pegg even do a Scottish accent?
Abrams my friend you certainly have some balls to make such an off-beat casting. I would have gone for Paul McGillion who is more than perfect for the role but Pegg is a very popular actor here in Britain.
What would James Doohan make of this? He would probably laugh and I guess I am too… what a crazy week it has been…

This will be a monumental, spectacular disaster. I am astonished at the wrong-headedness of this entire project.

He’s not wrong there! I like simon Pegg but not for this man!I really wish they would scap the whole thing a just leave star Trak alone, For Fuck sake! this is such a shitty idea and it just keeps on getting worse!
Either strange or brave love Pegg but he does not even look like a young Scotty which at least you can say is the case for rest of the cast I will always thought that Scotty was about that age during the orginal series (37)
Cho now Pegg! Awesome, I hate star trek but since it’s gonna be a comedy I’m all for it. Shut up Trekkies, this movie is gonna blow!
