Heaven help us, they’re making a KIDULTHOOD sequel…

You just know the British film industry is in dire straits when a sequel to Kidulthood - the mediocre, been there done that teen gang pic - is in the works.

kidulthood

The new movie, which carries a title as terrible as the first - Adulthood, will be directed by Noel Clarke, who will also star in the film. Clarke is most famous for his work in Dr Who (a program I’ve never watched, despite the allure of Billie!) and also for writing the screenplay for Kidulthood.

Actors Adam Deacon, Femi Oyeniran, Red Madrell, Cornell John and Madelaine Fairley join Clarke from the original film, along with newcomers Scarlett Alice Johnson, Jacob Anderson, Shanika Warren Markland, Nathan Constance, Don Klass and Arnold Oceng as well as rappers Ben ‘Plan B’ Drew and Shystie. Looks like Nicolas Hoult won’t be returning, which is a shame because he is turning into a very good young actor.

While I’m pleased that Clarke is getting a shot at directing - because there’s a derth of young British directing talent - I think it’d be safe to cut ties with Kidulthood because, really, does anyone want to see a sequel to that film. I saw two films last year that had an extraordinary amount of walk outs - one was Kidulthood, the other, surprisingly was Superman Returns.

We need some fresh new Brit filmmaking talent and hopefully Clarke can surprise us and pull something decent of the bag.

  1. I have to say that I quite enjoyed Kidulthood for what it was, there are not many movies that cover this topic that are set in the uk so for me it was interesting to watch, also for the fact that it reminded me of my youth (yes I was a bit of a delinquent)

I actually hope this sequel succeeds. I’ve met the director Noel Clarke and he’s a really cool guy, Im also a personal friend of the actress Shanika Marland and im happy that she has landed this role. Although I don’t think a sequel to Kidulthood is nessesary but if Noel thinks he has a good story to tell then I can only give him the benefit of the doubt.
