BOX OFFICE: HEARTBREAK for Stiller, not much better for us.

The Heartbreak KidWell if you don’t like shitty looking fantasy movies (THE DARK IS RISING) and you think Ben Stiller and the Farrelly Brothers ran their course some movies ago (THE HEARTBREAK KID) then you either stay at home, or you see The Rock’s movie THE GAME PLAN.

Most of you decided to stay at home. Compared to this weekend last year when THE DEPARTED was released, the box office was down 28%.

In what is the worst October weekend for box office receipts in over a decade, THE GAME PLAN has surprisingly held strong at number one for a second week running with a mighty impressive $16.3 million taking. The movie only dropped 29% of it’s first week audience and should go on to be The Rock’s second highest success of his career.

In second is THE HEARTBREAK KID starring the ‘bankable’ Ben Stiller who has consistently been one of film’s biggest box office stars over the last decade made a soft $14 million on a huge number of 4,000 screens. This breaks his four streak run of $20 million plus opening weekends. Awful trailer, an uninteresting plot and really hideous marketing. It’s like Dreamworks and Paramount new this was a disaster and wanted to spend no more on it.

The absolutely dreadful looking fantasy flick THE SEEKER: THE DARK IS RISING opened to a less than magical $3.6 million and is a mega flop for Fox. They couldn’t even come up with a name that they wanted to stick with for the movie that should have been known as THE SEEKER all along. THE DARK IS RISING sub-title made it sound like a sequel to a franchise that audiences had never previously seen or absolutely had no interest of getting into.
