Holy lawsuits Batman, according to the Lying in the Gutter column over at Comic Book Resources, it appears that Adam West, Dick Ward and Commissioner Gordon’s red phone may go a long way in settling the argument between 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. over the WATCHMEN release issue!

Fox, who I would believe “in house” don’t actually think they stand any chance of blocking the release of such a high profile picture indefinitely, have come up with a nice compensation idea that WB may be inclined to settle with.
Fox want Batman. No… WB would never give up the rights to thier most profitable character, Fox just want the rights to release the old tapes from the 60’s show which have been locked in a vault for years as they don’t own the character name, trademarks etc for a show they produced back in the day.
Because of this, no VHS, Laser Disc or DVD package has ever been released of the classic show and unless WB agree to allow Fox to release them, it’s unlikely there ever will.
You can read WIKI’s informative article about the long standing issue HERE.
Ironically, at one point comic nerds were ready to protest and boycott any Fox release for what they were trying to do by blocking the release of WATCHMEN. Now, those same fans may very well be cheering them on, if it gets Adam West’s BATMAN on DVD.

As slightly ironic as this is there is also the fact that someone is probably reading this and thinking…
“Adam West? You mean the mayor from Family Guy.”
What a sad world we live in.
