It’s been confirmed that Maggie Gyllenhaal will be replacing Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes in the soon to be filming Batman Begins sequel…. The Dark Knight.
Honestly, it baffles me somewhat as to why Rachel needs to be in the sequel, her character arc seemed done in the first movie. Having said that, Gyllenhaal is a mighty fine actress and she kinda has the look and mannerisms of Katie Holmes for this to be an excellent choice.
How much screen time will she be given and what will her purpose be? Who knows. Rachel in the first movie was the only character that was under-written and out of place, let’s hope they actually do something with her this time.
Quick recap then…. Heath Ledger is The Joker, Aaron Eckhartis Two-Face, Maggie Gyllenhaal is Rachel Dawes and so far confirmed as returning are… Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and of course Christian Bale.
No word yet on Cillian Murphy as The Scarecrow or Tom Wilkinsonas Carmine Falcone, both I would guess…. will sit out this one.
