Gore Verbinski goes animated

Gore Verbinski has agreed a deal with Graham King and John Logan (producer & screenwriter who respectively worked on THE AVIATOR) for his next movie to be an animated feature, currently projected for a 2010 release.

The $100 million movie has yet to be written and plot details are scarce but it’s expected that Verbinski will bring his PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN visual effects team on board, say Variety.

Could he be interested in doing a Japenese style animated movie? This is what the helmer said back in October

“Western storytelling has run its course in a way; there’s a lot to be learned (in Asia),”

I don’t want to elicit hate but as formulaic as the PotC films are, I thought Verbinski showed some interesting visual stylings of his own in the third film (I’m thinking specifically of the locker scene with the JD’s nose).

I was actually mildly curious to see what he’s up to next and though I was hoping for something a bit off the wall, I’d be curious to see what he and his team will put together.

As Marina says with regard to the Pirates series, Verbinski is good with the visuals and I’d be interested to see a ‘Western’ eye take on ‘Easter’ anime (so far as far as I can think we’ve only really had Tarantino’s segment in Kill Bill).
