Good News/Really Worrying Bad News for G.I. JOE!

First we will start with the good news because if we start with the bad, it might put us off this film for life.

Variety say that Joseph Gordon Lewitt, the young actor who in the last 24 months has introduced himself with a bang to Indie audiences with his roles in BRICK and THE LOOKOUT, is in talks for a part in G.I. JOE. It’s not mentioned which role he is up for, but it’s likely the same part that Sam Rockwell was in talks for before a filming clash on AVATAR pushed him out of the running.

The bad news and it’s so hideous you might want to take your laptop and hide behind the couch, or if you are reading this on a PC.. you might want to dim the brightness to leviate the shock.

Marlon Wayans has signed the contract to play Ripcord, the leader of the Military Unit. Yeah, that’s the star of such great work as LITTLE MAN, NORBIT and those SCARY MOVIE turkeys and just about the last person you would ever want in such a film like this.

No I don’t know much about G.I. JOE but the words ‘leader’ and ‘Wayans’ give me panic inducing chills.

It would seem they changed the character from white to black, which is perfectly fine… if you cast someone who has a least an ounce of acting talent.

What is Stephen Sommers thinking?

Apart from the casting of Sienna Miller, I thought the rest of his choices were pretty damn good but this one is just so out of left field, I don’t know where to start.

Filming begins next month in Los Angeles.

Man, I carn’t even believe you are wasting space on an “Action Man” film, this movie sounds like typical hollywood shit! and is’nt Gi Joe, you know..for Kids?

That’s it! I am done with this G.I.Joe movie. Don Murphy is who I blame for this. That man can’t make anything but a mess!

We’re being punished.

Had popcorn-munching easily pleased audiences not gone and watched Scary Movie all those years ago, it would not have made any money and Wayans would not get work in Hollywood anymore.

Well he did do a good job in Requiem for a Dream.

Roars, we ARE being punished, but it’s because people made Bayformers a success. That was a Don Murphy production too. When filmmakers make a total mockery of an idea, spit on it, bastardize it and rape it, and audiences reward them by giving them 450 million and vociferously defending them against critics, can you really be surprised when the filmmakers do it again?

Don Muprhy is a dumbass hack who simply trolls for intellectual properties he can buy the film rights to, then use the name recognition to sell some movie tickets. That’s not being a filmmaker, it’s being a corporate pirate.

All the hard work that Bryan Singer, Stephen Norrington, Guillermo Del Toro, Robert Rodriguez/Frank Miller/Zack Snyder and Chris Nolan did to establish the principle that the ONLY way to make a successful comic-book/cartoon adpatation is by staying as close to the source material as possible, has now been all for nothing.
Hope the folks who thought Bayformers was just peachy are pleased with themselves. Filmmakers are already arrogant enough, and when they have a 450 million dollar “success” they can point to, they can use it for years as a shield to justify pissing on any adaptation they do with no regard for audience outrage.
Most filmmakes don’t like having to stay close to “cannon” because they feel as if the audience is “pushing them around,” and filmmakers are notoriously stubborn. So even if only one out of twenty of their exercises in arrogance pans out, in their minds it will be enough reason to continue to go their own way.
We’ll see more sh*t like G.I.Joke to be sure.
