God, The Devil And Lucy sounds like uber fun!

images.jpgNew Line Cinema have acquired the rights for God, The Devil and Lucy an outrageous religious comedy from writer David Hubbard. No cast or director are attached as of yet, but I love the sound of this movie and thought I would share it with you all, from The Hollywood Reporter

“The story follows God and the Devil who, tired of eternally fighting for human souls, decide to settle things once and for all by coming down to Earth as mortal men and competing for the love of one woman that they mutually choose. Without using any of their powers and relying only on human instinct and emotion, whoever gets the woman to say “I love you”wins all the souls of humanity”.

How fun does that sound? Although i’ve just had the awful thought that New Line will cast Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller in the movie or something. I’m thinking that a younger Alan Rickman would have been fantastic as a charming devil but probably too old now.

Not sure about who should play god but please New Line, don’t go for any of the frat pack of actors like Will Ferell or Steve Carell.

Um, sounds interesting. The casting will make or break this one. I actually think the idea of Ferrell as God and Carell as the devil might be kind of fun. Hmmmm… of course I am biased. I could watch Ferrell take a shit on my face and find it amusing. Even when I am vomiting.

I rather like the premise of this God, the Devil and Lucy story.!! I can already see it being VERRYY GOOD, if it’s done right. I’m glad you mentioned Ben Stiller, Will Ferrel and the “frat pat” guys. I, ALSO, cannot see them playing such characters, this material would be too good for them to act like idiots in.
The actors who come to mind and who I’d find extremely interesting in the roles are Jim Carrey as God because he can play a rather amusing and likeable God, even though he is known to be wild, but he wouldn’t be so much in this. I say Hugh Jackman as the Devil only because I could see him playing the suave, brooding guy who even though he’s so bad, is lovable(i’m talking about FLOCKS OF GIRLS RUSHING to see this character!!) and it’d be awesome to see how he would handle the devil character. And for Lucy, not a single current actress comes to mind….so i’d just say a comic girl for Lucy, who isn’t terribly silly(which would kill all dignity for her character and the reason of seeing the movie). It’d have to be someone who is witty and funny in delivery of lines and expressions, but worthy enough to be whood and cared about.
The two actors are what I came up with when thinking about the personas of God and the Devil, and they couldn’t be vice versa. There may be some actors that I’m overlooking, but these two actors are in the same age range and are very well-known and successful commercial actors which could make the film great.

The casting really will make or break this movie, they need to find three people who can act first of all, and secondly have great chemistry together.

How about Jason Lee as the devil? I like the idea of Jim Carrey as the devil actually rather than God.

yeah…but jim carrey has already played the devil in “High Strung”…and jason lee was close playing azrael in “Dogma”

Never seen High Strung but your right about Lee in Dogma. That’s partly why I thought of him but I found him charming in a way fitting of the devil in Vanilla Sky. I dunno, maybe that’s just me.
