Ghost in the Shell to go live action?

Ghost_In_The_Shell_DVD.jpgThe amazingly popular manga series Ghost in the Shell is to receive a live action adaptation after Japenese anime studio Production I.G. picked up the big screen rights.

The studio are no strangers to the series. In 1995 they released a faithfully animated version of Ghost in the Shell which was not only popular but critically acclaimed also, and is seen as a turning point in computer cell animation. They also released a sequel in 2004.

If you have never seen Ghost in the Shell, then you will probably know the studio’s work from the anime sequence in the first Kill Bill movie.

Ghost in the Shell in live action? Seems a little peculiar as the animation form has been so popular for the series for well over a decade now. I’m not saying it won’t work though, a live action version of The Matrix (which takes many elements from Ghost in the Shell) worked brilliantly.

source – variety, coming soon

The ironic thing about the movie would be that many casual viewers will see it as a rip off of the matrix.
