Word is they are remaking another John Carpenter classic. This time it’s the 1981 sci-fi action movie Escape from New York which starred Kurt Russell in his coolest role to date as Snake Plissken and the legendary Lee Van Cleef.
Scottish actor Gerard Butler is being lined up to star as Snake in the remake.
More from Variety…
Butler would play Snake Plissken, the one-eyed convict who’s charged with heading into the inescapable maximum security prison formerly known as Manhattan to liberate the U.S. president.
Now, Escape from New York is far from a perfect film but it’s uber cool and Kurt Russell’s performance is something that can never be replicated, no matter how good this Gerard Butler is.
We can presume that this remake will have a far bigger budget than the $7 million Carpenter had to make his original.
How far in the future will the film be set? Who is going to direct?
Variety aren’t telling us anything at the moment.

Kurt Russell is not too old to make another Plissken flick. Maybe Grindhouse will raise enough eyes that Russell can still do the bad ass schtick.
No I agree, I just thought about that when I finished posting.
Can’t wait to see him in Grindhouse.
