George Miller officially off JUSTICE LEAGUE

Although with the movie adaptation being dead in the water for months, this news has been obvious to everyone for such a long time but in any event, today Aussie director George Miller confirmed on the Sydney-based talk show “Sunrise” that he is no longer working on the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie in any capacity at WB.

Miller had been given the task of directing the proposed team-up movie during the late summer of last year but once Christmas time came and it was still stalling, it was obvious that WB were giving up on the project which by then they had spend a good deal of money on with lots of pre-production stages completed and casting places filled.

The negative fan reaction to the whole idea of a JUSTICE LEAGUE film at this stage of the DC Comics on Screen canon played a huge part in it’s demise, a lot of it stemming from the casting of young and mostly inexperienced actors in their 20’s but Miller believes that wouldn’t happen again if the project did ever get revived.

“the studios seem to want bigger stars in their superhero movies now.”

Miller also told the station that he hasn’t yet given up hope of Mel Gibson agreeing to do his MAD MAX 4 script that he completed and Mel originally declined to do.

Personally I think JLA could be a particularly rewarding project- provided they take heed of the fanboys’ seemingly unanimous distain for the idea of casting youngsters. It should concentrate on what I see as the Golden Age though, with the line-up the same as the awesome animated series- Batman, Spiderman, Martian Manhunter, The Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl and Wonder Woman. And Solomon Grundy should be the villain (should totally be Mark Hammill like in the Justice League cartoon). But who’s to say the team-up movie isnt going to be made redundant by the Watchmen movie next year?

Who the hell thinks Justice League is a good idea for a film???? I mean, besides Matt??

I didn’t even know there was a JLA movie in the works. Truthfully, I’m conflicted on the idea. I love seeing stuff like this on the web. I am constantly amazed at how much useful information one can find with just a little digging. Most traditional film schools tend to skip important topics in favor of technique and things like that. One program I found online offers one on one mentoring to assure that you have all the tools to feel comfortable and ready the first day you step onto a set. One such program is Film Connectio. http://WWW.film-connection.com The best part is that their program is available anywhere in the US and Canada.

I doubt we’ll ever see JLA and if we do, it’ll be after this comic fad is dead in Hollywood.

Warner Bros. needs to focus on the solo films instead of putting together some rush-job of a superhero ensemble flick. The news that this film is dead once and for all may be a good sign. Perhaps Warners is NOW thinking more seriously about their solo ventures (i.e. Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Flash, & Wonder Woman). Speaking of Wonder Woman, I still think they should cast Megan Gale in the solo film, little acting experience or not. We go see these films for the characters that are portrayed and NOT for the actors themselves.

This is bullshit! We will never see any of the characters that were to be featured in JLA up on the big screen in their own films!(Who’s to say George Miller wouldn’t have done a great film?)
Warners are fucking idiots, they will never get their act together like Marvel and get some of these timeless great characters they own in to film.
looks like all we DC comics fans have really got to look forward to is another series of SMALLVILLE? (yawn)and if we are very lucky maybe Chris Nolan may make a 3rd Batman film… only lets have it really dark this time!, I mean it, No lights at all!

Finally somebody grew a brain. Now if only they can choose a director with some sense this time.

Sorry, The Glove, I think solo films need to be priority #1 for Warners. Then merge them in a JLA flick. Now will Warners get their act together, so to speak, and come through with the goods before this whole superhero trend in movies dies out, doubtful. And I agree, why not make Batman 3 SO DARK that all you see is a black screen and hear Christian Bale talk in that cloying growl of a Batman voice! The new direction of Batman is taking itself WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too serious and going for WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much freakin realism. It’s a comic book for cripessake! I mean how are you gonna make Superman’s flying a realistic thing? And how about that last Superman film? It was darker than the previous incarnations and what a bust it was! Warners needs to listen to DC and stick with their direction. Which I’m sure doesn’t include making Superman or Wonder Woman “darker.”
