Frank Miller on HARD BOILED

Seven years ago it was Frank Miller who made a deal with Warner Bros. for his 1990 comic series Hard Boiled to be made into a feature film with Nicolas Cage set to star and David Fincher to direct.

But a lot has happened since 2001, one of them being that film was never made. The situation has clearly changed now, Frank Miller has a very successful co-directed adaptation of one of his works with Sin City in the bag and in less than a year’s time we will see his solo debut The Spirit open in cineplexes worldwide.

We’ve heard since 300 was released last year that Miller is not willing again to give up any of his properties for other directors to helm, choosing to adapt them himself if and when he is ready. Looks like things are no different for Hard Boiled.

He said this to MTV

“We’re talking about [it]…I’ve got a really unusual way I want to do it.”

“I’m in love with directing…I’ve found a way to expand my career. Comics and directing are really two sides of the same coin. That’s what Robert Rodriguez taught me…good drama is good drama.”

The Dark Horse Comics publication drawn by Geoff Darrow follows an insurance investigator who discovers he’s actually a cyborg named Nixon who is a part time assassin and part time tax collector who is thought to be the future savior of the robot race.

The comic is legendary for being one of the most violent ever made in the medium.

Currently on Miller’s potential schedule as his next film are Sin City 2, Trouble is My Business (adaptation of a Raymond Chandler novel with Clive Owen to star) or this movie.
