Fox don’t want us to see WATCHMEN

Not content with producing some of the worst movie blockbusters in recent memory… THE HAPPENING, JUMPER, AUSTRALIA etc, 20th Century Fox are now trying to actually stop us from seeing what looks to be worthy big budget epics.

Fox’s laywers have now made it quite clear that they are seeking to PREVENT THE RELEASE of WATCHMEN, currently set for March 6th 2009. This comes after last week we heard a Judge Gary Fees rule in favour of Fox against Warner Bros. and their alleged “illegal” adaptation.

Fox are adamant their will be no settling before the Jan 20th court date which almost guarantees the film will suffer a delay as their is likely to be months of court actions. Fox don’t even particularly seem to be looking for the best financial package for themselves. They want to block the release of one of the year’s most anticipated films, piss off a huge legion of comic book and movie fans, and then presumably make their version of the story somewhere down the line.

Could they… would they?

Seriously, if they block this particular version of the film I will boycott whatever else they do with the Watchmen universe. Zack Snyder seems to get it when it comes to comic book adaptations and that gives me hopes that somehow there might be a decent adaptation of the “greatest graphic novel ever.” Fox would be fucking themselves over in ways they cannot imagine by blocking this film.

1st of all: their is the wrong wrong, its THERE. I don’t know whats so hard about that. im a big stickler about poor grammar.

2nd: Watchmen seems pretty cool, but it seems to me like people are just “meh” about the movie. ITs something alot of people don’t know much about, and it feels like its been in the making forever, so what difference would it make if it was delayed a few months. Speaking as one of those people, I could wait for this. It’s not really a movie like the dark knight or harry potter that has such a huge following, and holds great anticipation to be watched. just my opinion

LOL @ post #2. A rather inconvenient time for you to make a grammatical error, eh? I agree with your sentiment, but I laughed at that…

As for Watchmen…I’m in the “meh” category. But, it does look intriguing enough for me to rent it on DVD if it ever gets released.

While I am a fan of Watchmen, I can deal with a delay. Just as long as the movie gets released. What Zack Snyder has done with the graphic novel seems absolutely amazing. The trailers (especially the first) perfectly demonstrate the mood of the story and demonstrates the Snyder is the man to do this.

What worries me even more than the idea of Snyder’s Watchmen being successfully prevented from release is the idea of Fox trying to do it themselves. Everything they have touched since The Simpsons Movie has crashed and burned (including the Simpsons series).

And for some reason I thought Fox would be reasonable…

1st of all @ post #2’s second part: You forgot to capitalize The Dark Knight and Harry Potter. I’m not sure what’s so hard about that? They’re titles. I’m not really much of a stickler for poor grammar, but that’s pretty simple I think. :P

Secondly, Fox can suck my b@lls.

The End!

I wont just be boycotting everything from the Watchmen universe (cinematically at least) Id be tempted to boycott everything coming out of Fox- well if it wasnt for Wolverine, Magneto, Street Fighter and Avatar anyway.

But seriously, this has to be a catastrophic decision for Fox’s image- how the hell do they think they’ll come out of it? Why not just take the rights, snaffle all the box-office and DVD money and have done with it. Surely that’s what delicious capitalism is all about?

Oh, and please dont allow them to re-edit it. If there’s anyone out there who has the power to stop them, do all you can to chop off their editing hands, or we will end up with a disaster, and the ridiculous situation where a new cut is released every few years, like the Blade Runner fiasco.

I guess the curse that Alan Moore put on this project worked. I would blame the legal department at Warner Brothers since they seem to have made a movie they do not own the rights to.

KC on December 31, 2008 at 7:26 am

Yeah, WB does share some of the blame for making a movie that they technically didn’t have rights to. At the same time, its pretty shitty of Fox to wait right up until the movie is about to be released to pull this. It makes them look bad more than anything else because it looks like they are fucking another company over, when in reality WB is actually the one fucking them over because of the rights being owned by Fox. Their timing is all messed up.

I don’t care much about the film. The trailers looked cool. I plan on reading the graphic novel first. If Fox releases the film, it’ll probably be some 80-90 minute, PG-13 film.

i will be joining a boycott of all fox productions if this movie is prevented from seeing the light of day!
