Gus Van Sant’s biopic of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official to have found himself in office in the U.S. is well underway with filming right now in San Fransisco and /Film have the first look at star Sean Penn in the lead role.
Josh Brolin is to co-star as Dan White (Milk’s political opposition), Emile Hirsch as Cleve Jones (fellow gay rights activist) and James Franco as Scott Smith (Milk’s lover and campaign manager) in the political drama due out next year.
Does it make me sick to enjoy assassination movies? Actually while I’m on the subject, if you haven’t seen Penn in THE ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON then you should do yourself a favour and check it out. Forget his Oscar for MYSTIC RIVER, that’s his best role of recent years.

really looking forward to this! Interested in Josh Brolin’s work since I saw him in ‘American Gangster’ and ‘No Country for Old Men’ and have been an admirer of Penn’s for ages!
One thing though – is it not James Franco as Scott Smith instead of the other way round?
