Recently delayed by 12 months, the now slated for a May 2010 release, the video game adaptation of Prince of Persia has become victim of spy photographers out in Morocco earlier today.
Those pesky press got a few snaps of Jake Gyllenhaal as the title character…
Ok, so I will admit that Gyllenhaal doesn’t actually look as far removed as the original character from the game but I still think that when you are making a movie about the Prince of Persia, the damn guy playing him should most certainly be Persian.
Just a thought!
What’s yours?

I wish I could see the reaction of those who’ve never heard of the game or film when they read the words “Jake Gyllenhaal as the PRINCE OF PERSIA” during the teaser. Hahahaha.
They could at least have picked a French guy…Me?!!
Yep, I agree, a little bit of Olive skin wouldn’t have gone astray!
Or maybe…me!
Keep up the good work guys,
From Oz,
Vincent Gorce
Actually i the look is a lot better than i thought but you never know, maybe he can pull off a really good persian, he’s not that bad of an actor, but they better have some Persian language in there, because i hate how hollywood makes a movie about WWII and the germans are speaking english or some shit. I dont know maybe im too critical, but its still bullshit.
Gyllenhaal has ever been slightly dorky looking, but I guess the protein shakes have been working. I agree that a little exotic blood would have been appreciated in the casting, but this is Hollywood so I suppose we should be thankful that at least we’ve got an interesting face who can act. I mean hell, they could’ve given us Casper Van Dien.. ;)
Will be interesting to see how he fairs in an action movie. Loved him in Donnie Darko and Zodiac, but this is cetainly a different barrel of badgers.
As for casting him as a Persian, I think we all know now that Hollywood as no concept of ethnicity other than having Eastern Europeans as bad guys.
No matter how good or bad this film is it will make a bomb with all the women an gays heading to their cinema. The reaction on other sites have already proved this.
Meh, the race of the guy doesn’t matter to me (how many Persian actors are there, exactly, especially as the country doesn’t technically exist today?).
It’s the script that worries me. Are they going to go for an Uwe Boll/Resident Evil type of movie where they keep a few bare bones and jettison everything else? Are they going to go for a Silent Hill, where they keep as much as possible from the game but lose a little in cinematic cohesion?
Given the subtitle of this movie, I’m hoping for something that sticks close enough to The Sands Of Time’s plot without straying into the things that made the sequels inferior. I think Gylenhaal’s a decent actor and I hope he can pull off the lead character’s youthful arrogance and vulnerability well. Without a decent script, there’s nothing he can do though.
haha, i wanna hear him pull off a persian accent :P
i believe 60 precent of persian(iranian) are just like Jake Gyllenhaal and others look pale because these 60 precent are the original persians but the others have been mixed with turkish people and they look pale
