Amy RyanThe next movie from the BOURNE duo Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass officially begins filming today in Spain after nearly 12 months of preparation and remarkably, no further casting news than the lead role.

Until today it really was looking like it would be a one-man show but Variety finally tell us that Greg Kinnear, Antonie Carone and Amy Ryan have signed up to the movie with more names expected to be announced shortly.

The fictional thriller is roughly based upon Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s nonfiction book “Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq’s Green Zone” and follows a group of U.S. troops in Iraqi occupation who the press claim are being mis-treated by the men in charge who know nothing of what it is like to experience life in that war zone.

Damon leads as an officer who teams with a senior CIA officer to search for evidence of weapons of mass destruction. Ryan will play a New York Times foreign correspondent sent to Iraq to investigate the U.S. government’s WMD claims. Kinnear plays another CIA officer. Antoni Corone has been cast as a colonel.

Greengrass has proved himself to be one of the most accomplished directors in the last few years, I’m really excited to see how he handles this thriller. Interesting also to see how heavy on the Richter scale his shaky cam style will be… totally frantic and high on ecstasy like THE BOURNE SUPREMACY or more calm and assured with more focus like THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM?
