EXCLUSIVE: Who else will be KILLING PABLO?
Yesterday news broke on forward momentum for the long gestating Joe Carnahan project KILLING PABLO.
I won’t bother giving you a blow by blow of the film because it’s be easier if you just click here.
Anyways, a source who works in the industry dropped us a line telling us who else is attached to star in the movie with Christian Bale and Javier Bardem.
None other than Wolfman himself Benicio Del Toro is among the already impressive cast!
I don’t have confirmation on the role Benicio is playing but a bit of research into Mark Bowden’s book points strongly towards Hugo Martinez. Martinez was a Colombian Colonel who was involved in taking down drug lord Pablo Escobar.
Martinez is introduced thusly in the script:-
“WE FIND COLONEL HUGO MARTINEZ, late 40’s. A Man possessed of a warrior’s gird and a survivor’s pedigree.”
I’m liking this cast a lot, Carnahan has assembled some macho guys who would be totally believable inhabiting this world.
KILLING PABLO will definitely be on the OWF radar.

That’s extremely interesting if it turns out to be true because a couple of years ago Del Toro was cast to play the lead role of Escobar.

I can’t wait to see this, i’ve read the book which I found facinating. I should point out that im in fact Colombian, my family is actually from the same city, Pablo Escobar is actually buried in the same cemetary as members of my own family.
This movie and the two Che Gevara movies are easily on my most anticipated list.

Well, in my other post on this movie I was saying how refreshing it was that they didn’t go to Benicio, because he seems to be the only Hispanic that any casting director cares to even give a part to.
Oh well, he’s a damned good actor and I’m sure after the performace he gave in Traffic (which, I didn’t like –the movie as well as his nebulous acting in that flick) this should make for a nice follow-up.

did none of you listen to me at all. your last post about this I said that it sounded an awful lot like Entourage. Now that I hear this all I can wait for is Ari to call up Vincent Chase and say “hey Benicio is up for the role, dont be mad let’s hug it out”. hahaha. The book was great and Im excited too. But this is all too familiar, right?

I thought he would have made a decent Escobar, in fact I would’ve assumed that’s who he’s playing if Bardem wasn’t already cast.
I wonder why this wasn’t announced with the rest of them the other day - maybe they need to work the schedule around Wolf Man?
