EXCLUSIVE: If you hear about a movie titled 7 FRIENDS, take note!

Justice League is still very much alive guys and I’m of the opinion that all those actors who we have mentioned cast a while back are still locked for this project (with the possible exception of Anton Yelchin) and if it gets going soon they will all be able to suit up pretty quickly.

I also believe that Warner Bros. have spent so much time, effort and money to get the film this far into production that they are scared to death of halting the project indefinitely. They are frantically working on script re-writes and hoping the SAG strike is as quickly resolved as the aborted DGA strike and obviously not the WGA one which would be a worst case scenario.

You can take all this info that I got from an e-mail last night as being legit. Every time we’ve reported on the Justice League we have been 100% spot on so far and although it doesn’t tell us much that we don’t know already, it does confirm a few things (the Owen Paterson rumor that’s been spreading) and the new secret code name…

  • The code title of the movie is 7 Friends.
  • The team (incl Owen Paterson) is still officially on hiatus but there’s a skeleton crew working on it in Australia while the rewrites happen. Costume designer Emily Seresin comes in two days a week. What she’s doing? I’m not sure.
  • Considerable amount of work has already been done incl the construction of some sets.
  • Besides costumes Weta was/is also slated to do special effects makeup
  • Suspicions are that the film will remain in Oz but the threat of a strike and a move to Canada still remains
  • The pic has always been slated for extensive green screen work. [this was in response to stuff I heard about it being a "highly stylised" film - something akin to Sky Capt, Sin City, 300 etc]
  • An agent said this - “The film is to be done entirely in Australia, with Australian crew. They still have concerns about the script and actors’ strike. It most likely will not start before a SAG agreement is reached.”

  1. Um, this is a dream project?? For whom? The studio heads that are greenlighting it in order to make hundreds of millions of dollars?? The inevitable merchandizing companies with their myriads of high-priced tie-ins?? The theater owners who will undoubtedly make tons of money in the first weekend??

There is NOTHING in this movie for the true movie lover. It’s just another blatant money-grab; the only difference is that there are more superheroes thrown in, probably in order to ensure maximum audience attendance.

I refuse to believe WB would go forward with the original actors. They let all the contracts lapse. They have the perfect excuse to re-cast. Not only has the internet exploded with hate for the cast, but respected newspapers like the New York Times, Variety, and Entertainment Weekly have also referred to the shockingly poor casting. Why would the studio stick with a cast that was doing terrible PR damage to their tentpole? I’ve never seen a cast so viscerally and universally hated before. It is mind boggling that WB would so destroy their own film like that. I refuse to believe WB is so retarded. Pure greed alone should have convinced them to recast and shore up the box office. Mind boggling!

Please reassure me that Warner Bros isn’t completely run by retarded, feces eating, chimps.

I think the whole idea of a Justice League movie is a terrible one. DC Comics has other heroes that deserve their own spot light like Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, and maybe Hawkman. Green Lantern would be the best choice by far for the next superhero movie. To come out with a movie that forces them to share the spotlight with others right now, before their own seperate movies to establish their origins will only serve to confuse the average movie goer who has no real interest in the comics. Not only that but Batman has just been resurrected from the silver screen grave thanks to Batman Begins and has a much anticipated sequal due out in a mere matter of months. To have yet another live action Batman on screen may hurt the new Batman franchise that has won WB the praise of many Dark Knight fans. Just my opinion, but WB would be much better served by exploring the different heroes first. Business wise, it makes more sense as you would be producing many more movies than just lobbing them all into one.

  7. Ray,

You’ve never wanted to see Batman and Superman on screen together, or a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie? Really?

    Not even animated?

I’m not saying the state the movie is in now is a dream project. In fact that’s the opposite I’m saying. What I’m saying is the whole idea of a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie is a dream project, or at least for me it is.

If done properely it could be amazing, especially with the recent move into bigger and better comic book universes on our big screens.

But for the reasons you mentioned, it will probably only ever be good in theory and not in pratice. Hence the word… Dream.

  9. Hellen,

They will use 80% AT LEAST of the original actors if this movie goes ahead before June. I guarantee it.

They have done the size fittings. They have done the extensive auditions. They have been put together because they all have a chemistry with each other.

Remember they are getting HUGEEEEE money to star in this. JUSTICE LEAGUE is not a small indie film.

If you look at the cast…

    Adam Brody (Clear schedule)

    Common (Clear schedule)

    Teresa Palmer (Clear schedule)

    D.J. Cotrona (Clear schedule)

    Armie Hammer (Clear schedule)

    Megan Gale (Clear schedule)

    Zoe Kazan (Clear schedule)

Anton Yelchin (as mentioned in the article he is shooting STAR TREK and will probably be let go as Aquaman)

    Hugh Keays-Bryne (Clear schedule)

ALL OF THEM (with Yelchin exception) ARE FREE

I know there have been reports that they had been let go, and it may have been true at the time but I can almost guarantee it’s not true now.

You can’t tell me these guys haven’t found work? All of them?

I believe they most likely had a clause in their contract which meant they would have to come back to work on the JLA movie once the WGA strike was over. If you recall, the strike ended just after they were let go.

I wouldn’t be surprised if WB are actually paying these actors in some way at the moment. And even if they werent, the actors are smart enough to stay around because of the huge paycheck and franchise opportunities.

“I refuse to believe WB is so retarded. Please reassure me that Warner Bros isn’t completely run by retarded, feces eating, chimps”.

Hellen, don’t forget how retarded WB are. You should have seen some of the Batman productions they had in motion at various points in time.

And don’t forget that WB made Batman and Robin. They created that monster.

Catwomen only a few years ago.

They can be the most retarded studio in the industry. If they were stupid enough to get this cast in the first place, of course they will go ahead with it now.

Remember Michael Keaton? 50,000 letters complaining about his casting as Batman. I seriously doubt WB have recieved that this time.

Bottom line is… if the movie is going ahead now, to much money has been spent for it not to be this cast.

  11. Matt Holmes

    Joe,

I think everyone agrees with you mate.

I would much rather see single movies for Green Lantern, The Flash & Wonder Woman plus the Green Arrow movie they have in production before this.

And I would rather see AT LEAST another two Batman (not including this Summer’s) and two Superman movies before this is even considered.

With a Batman and Superman as established as they were when Keaton and Routh were playing the characters in the early 90’s (before Keaton’s accident)… if to do a team up movie then would be FANTASTIC.

But WB can’t afford to wait ten years for that. They don’t have the patience. Marvel are already lots of steps ahead of them with the characters they have on film, they are so worried about losing out to an Avengers film first.

And at the end of the day, who knows if comic book movies will be such big business in 2018?

Though you are right. I wouldn’t do a JLA movie now, but you can surely see why they are.

I would like to see the solo films first, but I also don’t mind if they are doing a JLA film now. Like you said, who’s to say that by the time they do all the solo films and then decide to do JLA that the comic based film business will be as big and popular as it is now? The general audience could become apathetic towrds them.

I’d rather die seeing a bad JLA film than not seeing one at all. I still doubt this film will be bad anyway. I’m hoping that there have been changes to the cast. My biggest gripe with it is Cotrona.

Also the GA film, Supermax, is a horrible idea. A friend of mine said this…

“That just proves that Goyer is full of it.

Here’s a grand idea for a “Batman” movie:

Batman gets busted, revealed to be Bruce Wayne, Wayne convicted of countless acts of vigilantism, violence, and property damage, sentenced to life in prison, and has to team up with the Joker, Riddler, Penguin, Killer Croc, and every other cheesy supervillain to come down the pike, BUT no one is in costume except for the first 10 minutes, no gadgets, no nifty tech, just 2+ hours of hardass Bruce trying to convince these brutes not to give it to him hard up the ass, the ageless wisdom of how alike are enemies to one another, when you peel back the layers of each one’s psychosis, and the inevitable ending of Bruce and Mr. J sharing a wisecrack over the relative subjectivity of in/sanity on the rooftop, before each leaps over the walls and goes on the lamb.

That’s not “Batman”. That’s “Bruce Wayne: Fugitive”.

Not slamming you, if you’re liking the idea of ‘Supermax’, but I think it’s lame and contrived, even for comic book fare.”

It’s not that I would not enjoy seeing the characters together, I just think that this is incredibly bad timing. As big a Batman fan that I am, two live action Batmen on screen is a bit much. I rather enjoy the animated team ups between Supes and Bats.

    To Mr. Holmes:
I understand what you are saying about WB losing out to an Avengers film, but the point here is MARVEL comics is in a much better position right now to make such a movie. They have explored a sizeable portion of their own universe with movies such as the Blade Trilogy, Spider Man Trilogy, X-Men Trilogy, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Elektra, Hulk, and now Iron Man coming out this summer. The one movie I am waiting for MARVEL to come out with is Captain America. After that, I think MARVEL would and should go ahead with the Avengers. DC comics has a LONG WAY TO GO before they should even consider a JLA movie. The DC universe is no where near as well established on screen as MARVEL is. As I stated before, DC has just come back from the silver screen grave and is trying to re-establish itself. MARVEL has been introducing itself for awhile now and if a team up movie was made in MU, people would have an idea of who the characters are and their dynamics. DCU is just being thrown out there in competition and may hurt the chances of future franchises such as Green Lantern of ever making it on it’s own feet.

  17. I can’t wait to see this movie.

Here are the confirmed cast members that I like:

    Megan Gale as WW

Common as Green Lantern/John Stewart (wish they were using Hal but I like this casting choice for John)

    Adam Brody as Flash/Barry Allen

and if it’s true, I think that Anton Yelchin would make a great Kid Flash/Wally West.

……and I think that Zoe Kazan will make a great Iris West, fiance of Barry Allen in the comics.

I honestly think that the casting of Armie hammer as Batman and DJ Cotrona as Superman is bogus and mixed up tho. I think that Hammer was actually cast as Superman and Cotrona was cast as Batman. Makes soooo much more sense that way. Hammer looks more like Superman than Cotrona anyway and is much taller than Cotrona. Anyway, if they do the casting like that than I’ll be happier than if it were vice versa.

  18. March 17, 2008 at 6:54 pm
  19. And the only reason why I won’t mind them using a secondtier GL like John in JLA is as long as they gaurantee that Hal Jordan will be the GL in the Green Lantern movie. Hal’s the best GL EVER!

I will be down with this movie on only one condition. And that’s when I see hard proof that Nolan, Bale, etc. have signed on for another Batman film. I would rather see this JLA movie be shelved if it means keeping Nolan & Co. on board for another Batman film. I’ve heard the rumors that they were not pleased that WB was going to be putting up another live action Batman on the screen while they are still doing their story arc of films. And if Nolan & Co. walk away from a third film you will have many royally pissed off Batman fans, like me, that will not support the JLA movie. So, WB had better get Nolan & Co. signed on for a third movie immediately after The Dark Knight comes out to help calm some of these fears that a JLA movie will mean no third Nolan Batman film.

  22. March 17, 2008 at 8:19 pm
  23. If Nolan and Bale leave, which I highly doubt, just because of this film, then it shows how much they really care. So, there is no need to get pissed off at WB. They want Nolan’s films, Justice League, and MAYBE Singer’s films. It all means more money for them.

  24. March 18, 2008 at 2:08 am
  25. I am all for the movie. Lets get it made. I think people will be suprised how good it could be. If you remember how people were in an uproar about Hugh Jackman being cast as Wolverine…he is too tall, he isn’t rugged enough. Boy was everyone wrong! I can’t wait to see the movie. I think the casting was pretty good…I don’t know about the Armie and DJ thing but I really don’t know much about them.

Look,I’m excited.I really don’t think it’d be wise to go on solo projects …like WW of GL lest they flop. Now set them up with JL and if they catch on you can do a spin off.Look Supes Returns cost over 200 million and stunk. And they’re going ahead with the 2nd one,why not the League movie?Weta is reknown for great work and George Miler is a great director.I’ll give it a shot.

So wait, did I miss something? I thought there was a rumor that Batman and Superman were being written out of the Justice League movie. According to the rumor, Superman would be dead at the time of the film (a la the mid-nineties “Death of Superman” saga) and Batman would have been already voted off the team at the start of the film (a la Mark Waid’s “Tower of Babel,” kind of).

Is this rumor bunked now? Or has everyone just forgotten it? Advance thanks to anyone for reliable information on the subject.

(For reference, I couldn’t find the original site on which I read the story, but it was also reported here: http://www.moviesonline.ca/movienews_14147.html and here: http://www.film.com/movies/story/ajusticeleaguewithoutbatmanorsuperman/18624226 among other places which can easily be found with any search engine.)

This movie is being rushed. Money is the main concern of Warner Brothers on this project. Money from the Merchandise…..it’s Yogurt all over again (Spaceballs reference for those that don’t know). The cast is incredibly young. I understand the thought of casting young so they can make sequel after sequel but that thought process is not a good one when you want to make a good movie and not just a special effects showcase. The whole idea needs to be scrapped and needs to start over from new. Young actors would be fine if they were making the Titans…not the Justice League. The JL are the main Heroes in the DCU…they are seasoned heroes that came together to fight a common enemy. At the very least The big three; Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman should be older and not look like they came from an American Pie movie. To the guy who said everybody was up in arms about Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine. Who was upset about that? Granted the height was brought up but even the most hardcore comic nerd understands that you can’t cast somebody 5 foot whatever…As I remember…everybody was excited about Mr. Jackman playing Logan and were totaly sold on him when the first pictures were coming out. Marvel has it right…they are gaining control over their characters and are now starting to dictate how their characters are represented on the big screen. They are starting to develop a Marvel universe for the movies by having characters pop up in other movies. Now just think if Marvel was able to get Spider-man, X-men and the Fan 4 back…I would love to see an X-Men movie that has Spider-man swinging by. Even just a quick cameo would be cool to know that we are watching a movie based on this big amazing universe and not just a few people with special powers. DC is owned by Warner Brothers however and that giant corporate Juggernaut doesn’t get that idea nor does it care. Warner Brothers cares about filling a movie with explosions and people in costumes so they can sell your kids the cereal, the action figures, videogames, lunchboxes, and Halloween costumes.

Make the movie already! Let’s see how it turns out before we bitch about it. We don’t know that the actors will be that bad, they obviously saw something in them if they cast them. Definitely can’t be any worse than Keanu Reeves (or whatever his name is) as Constantine! And come on, for all you people wanting a GL movie… without a JL movie to introduce him to the general public do you think the average person is going to shell out the money to see a movie called ‘Green Lantern’? I mean, us comic fans love him, but you gotta admit to someone unfamiliar to the character, the name just sounds silly…oh yeah and he has a ring that can create a giant green boxing glove!!!

So they are going to do this ‘highly stylized’? theyr only doing this because Sin City and 300 made loadsamoney. Plus theres the fact that they get to spend less on effects as those films were produced fairly cheaply for Hollywood standards. so any stylization means less realistic therefore less costly effects.

  37. Jack

One thing that has to be considered, is that there is no safety net. WB’s is counting that the general viewing audience is stupid. Putting their eggs in one basket is a huge risk. Even if this movie breaks even, it will be a failure. The investors at the studio will not take it kindly,And it will be a very long time for any spin offs. They are rushing this movie, there is no question. It will flop. And all of the cast will be forgetable. Why do you think Jessica Biel dropped out. She did not want too be part of this. For this will be the defining moment for what the future holds for the DC universe on the big screen. The odds are not in their favor.

  38. March 19, 2008 at 3:45 am
  39. Jack

One more thing. All the actors in the JLA movie will not be in any of the spin off’s. This is obvious that WB’s knows that this movie could be a disaster. They might be able to wash their hands of it. By blaming George Miller. And start all over with distancing Miller and his flop. It has been done before. One thing about WB’s the don’t take responsibilty. That’s why they are in this mess in the first place. They do not have the right people running their Superhero movies.

  40. March 19, 2008 at 4:04 am
  41. I thought Biel dropped out because she wouldn’t get the WW solo film.

  42. March 19, 2008 at 5:38 am
  43. Word in the papers is the title is Justice League Mortal. Miller wants to start filming in Australia right away, but the Australian FFC won’t give it a big enough tax rebate because it’s an American story with American accents. He’s pointing to American productions like Hercules and Xena for paving the way for local film production in New Zealand.

I’m so sick of Batman this, Superman that… They’ve had their run of movies. It is NO QUESTION that WONDER WOMAN should be next in line to front her own movie. The character has been around since 1941 and is one of DC’s ‘Big-Three’. She deserves her turn.
It’s truly sad how Warner Brothers don’t give her so much as a second thought…

  46. March 19, 2008 at 10:39 am
  47. Jack

Let’s face up to the facks. This film is going to Suck. And Brad you are so right. Wonder Woman deserverd her turn. You can thank Joel Silver for that. 9 years and counting since it was green lighted. It is unfortunate that he is still attached to this project. Matrix boy is not up for the task. And Megan Gale will be forgetable as Wonder Woman. I was not a Biel fan for WW , but she was a better choice. At least she can act. Nadia Bjorlin was my choice. But maybe she is better off not getting the part. After all the JLA movie will Suck.Move over Batman and Robin. There is a new flop in town.

  48. March 19, 2008 at 2:59 pm
  49. Besides not liking or caring for the cast, why else will this film suck?

If the film is similar to the review given at UGO, I’d say it’d turn out to be a pretty good one.

With the changes made now, I have no idea.

  50. March 19, 2008 at 3:34 pm

The script was rewritten 100%. This tells me that they are not confident at all.Its Ok to make some script previsions, but when you rewrite it 100%, means disaster. Wouldn’t it make sence to you , that Warner’s or even Miller himself would get the folks who write the comics involved? After all it is them who make these characters what they are. I would feel a hell alot better about this movie if they were on board. Their imput would make a world of difference.Warner’s is only making this movie to fill their void in 2009 summer movies. For a film of this magnitude, it should be carefully planed. They are going into this blind. And we the fans will get screwed. As a fan I feel insulted, and angered. And I am surprised that more fans are not. Most of them, just can’t wait to see Megan Gale in the Wonder Woman costume. They don’t care a Rat’s Ass about the what the character represents, or how she is presented on screen. Go to the DC universe Wonder Woman message board and you will see what I mean. These are the Fans that Warner’s is reaching out to. It’s sad but true.

  52. March 19, 2008 at 4:11 pm
  53. Where did you hear that it was 100% rewritten? IESB reported that it was the third act that they were fixing.

  54. March 19, 2008 at 4:38 pm
  55. Oldman

Hellen You refuse to believe that the WB would be that stupid? You’re talking about a studio that put serious time and money into a Super man movie where Superman wouldn’t fly didn’t have a cape, come from Kypton or have any real super powers and had to wrestle a giant spider.

  56. March 19, 2008 at 7:38 pm
  57. I hope I will be looking forward seeing the Justice League becoming a Super-Powered Heroes teaming up together fighting the forces of evil out in the universe. First of all I like to see If the Justice League movie can carry the rights to Politics, Religion, and Unknown Sightings going on around the world. Superman stands for Truth, Justice, and an American way. Batman steps out in the shadows and fights crime. Then Wonder Woman is The One and Only Hero gots to make choices than other Men can do. Green Lantern uses his Powered ring to appear in the day and night to fight evil. The Flash races with other heroes to gain speed of light to get more vibrations to motivate speed. Aquaman is the Man who can breathe underwear and learns to communicate with the Sea Mammals to save the ocean. Hawkman, The Flying Winged Hero who flies above the heavens and finds a destiny to fight evil. Martian Manhunter is the alien of Mars can shape shift to different forms.

These Heroes are lined up for war against The Holocaust Disaster of Man-Kind to fight the forces of evil.

  58. March 23, 2008 at 10:39 pm
  59. Batman

A Green Lantern Trilogy would be pretty cool. First movie with Hal Jordan’s rise as a hero, second one with the destruction of Coast City, minus the whole “Battle of the Supermen” comic storyline, and his turn towards the dark side (Emerald Twilight), and a third with his eventual redemption after being humbled by the new Green Lantern (probably Kyle Rayner). That would be better than any Justice League movie.

I agree with matt, this is a dream project of seeing a Justice League Movie……
But this appears to be more of a nightmare!

Where Marvel appear to be getting it right (Nick Fury and Captain America’s helmet in Iron Man and Tony Stark crossing over to The Incredible Hulk) by laying the seeds of The Avengers. DC appears flawed by just rolling on with JL and not taking into account the separate Batman and Superman francise.

So there are the following problems:
    a) People like Adam Brody will be no match for Christian Bale, or anyone who ends up as Batman.
    b) The script is apparently pretty poor, surely alarm bells should be ringing rather than till receipts.
c)To establish all the characters in one movie (bar Bat and Supes) will be almost impossible allowing only fleeting screen time.

I would prefer to see Superman 6 (or 2 depending on the point of view) done right by Singer rather than JLA.
