For some reason, I haven’t been too bothered about Eragon. Fantasy is usually one of my favourite genres of both books and movies but everything I had seen before today just seemed really lackluster to me.
However the newest trailer that has just hit the net has grabbed my attention. For those of you who don’t know what the movie is about, this is for you taken from Coming Soon..
“Based on the best-selling novel, this film centers on a young man named Eragon whose destiny is revealed with the help of a dragon. Eragon, now a Dragon Rider, is swept into a world of magic and power, discovering that he alone has the power to save – or destroy – an Empire”.
I know the trailer doesn’t really show anything we haven’t seen before in any other fantasy movie but to me it just looks really fun. Although I said the same when this time last year the Narnia trailer hit the net.
That movie bored the hell out of me and not because it was a bad story, but because it was such a poorly executed movie.

terrible trailer. i dont know what made you like it. i gave it a moment’s chance, but it just looked like a terrible fantasy ripoff of lord of the rings and chronicles of narnia success. and even the star power doesn’t help the movie like Jeremy Irons and John Malkovich. I respect Jeremy Irons as an actor but he and John Malkovich both made bad career choices deciding to do this movie.
the film just looks bad.!! it just gives me the impression that hollywood is just so lazy that they have to rebound off of lord of the rings and chronicles of narnia to produce a good, marketable fantasy film. and its sad really that its a whopping 125 million dollar budget production, and thats soley for the creation of the dragon and other “fantastical” special effects you’d find in a typical harry potter or narnia film.
Alex, I agree with you partially. “Eragon” the story offers nothing special at all. It is basically “Star Wars” in “Lord of the Rings” garb.
However, with so few fantasy films attempted, even in a post – Lord of the Rings world, it is nice to see SOMETHING being made that might qualify.
And you can’t beat that cast. YIKES!
