Ok, so Mike’s got me slightly worried with his 1 star review of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – which by the looks of things is the worst star rating he has given to any film this year. Now reading his review, it looked more like he was trying to make an example out of Indiana Jones IV and letting Hollywood know that this kind of lazy summer blockbuster sequel is simply not acceptable and really not passable… and that real movie fans want more from our favourite series’, not the continuing Hollywood turd that has given us Die Hard 4, Transformers & Pirates of the Caribbean 3 in the past year.
Forget what people at Cannes say, no-one is going to listen to the big wig reviewers when it comes to this movie. Hell, I don’t think Spielberg/Lucas/Ford will give two shits about their mixed reaction. It’s what the fans think about the movie that matters.
People like us.
Just please, don’t get too excited over Indy and be overly critical at it. Don’t expect it to be Raiders of the Lost Ark. It can’t possibly be that good, it’s rare that a movie comes together so effortlessly brilliant as that one… at a time when the career’s of all involved were at their absolute best. It would be like expecting Martin Scorsese to knock out Raging Bull with every movie he makes.
Indiana Jones IV will be fun, I’m sure of it. It won’t be mind blowing but at 65 years old, Harrison Ford will be as likeable and as watchable as ever. The film will be ridiculous… but there are moments in that original trilogy that defy belief. It will be silly… but as long as it’s fun. I just want to be entertained, that’s all I ever care about with summer blockbusters.
Sure you get that rare occasion with Batman Begins and The Bourne Ultimatum where a Summer blockbuster takes that extra step… but at the end of the day if every summer tentpole was as fun as the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, then I would be happy and content.
As long as Indy IV brings back a sense of adventure to the cinema. An old school kind of pulp serial brought to life, not the CGI fest that is too often found these days.
I’m seeing the movie in 12 hours at a midnight showing with a no doubt roraus legion of fans. Please don’t expect the world… you will only end up as disappointed as you were from The Phantom Menace.

Ok … enough of Indy … I want news and updates about Steven Soderbergh and Benicio Del Toro’s “The Argentine” and “Guerrilla” … I’m more excited about those two films than anything else … with the exception of “The Dark Knight”, of course.
