As opposed to the comments from Matthew Vaughn regarding Thor to the Empire Magazine this weekend, Edgar Wright and his Ant-Man adaptation thankfully seems to be moving along nicely.
I can’t say I know anything at all about the character but I like Edgar Wright’s work and although it might be strange seeing him direct a big tentpole for Marvel, I’m intrigued as hell to see it…
“It’s written and we’re doing a second draft of it,” said Wright. “It’s going to be less overtly comedic than anything else I’ve ever done. It’s more of a full-on action adventure sci-fi film but with a comedic element – in the same spirit of a lot of escapist fare like that. It’s certainly not a superhero spoof or pastiche and it certainly isn’t a sort of Honey I Shrunk The Kids endeavour at all.”
Awesome. I’m really happy that Marvel are pushing ahead with this kind of hero as opposed to the tired old conventional one’s like X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Wright confirms that both Hank Pym and Scott Lang will both appear as Ant-Man during the course of the film…
Moving ahead, Edgar Wright continues to sound optimistic over the final part of his “Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy” with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost…
“That’s one of the things that we’re going to do with Working Title who we’ve just signed a two-picture deal with,” he said. “It will have comedy and a cross-genre in a similar way.
But after a zom-rom-com and an action/cop comedy… who knows what genre’s Wright has up his sleeves to cross next.

I still wonder how the general public would react to a film like this. And what if we come to a point where the public doesn’t care for comic based films? Would future films of other characters be in danger?
Though I’m probably more psyched to see the grande finale of the Cornetto Trilogy, seeing what Wright could do with Marvel comic-book material is definitely tantalising. He could bring an unconventional, unique touch to a genre that’s treading a well-worn path right now and Ant-Man sounds like the sort of property that could push something delightfully different.
As for what flavour the final flick of the Cornetto Trilogy will be, I’m hoping for a western or a film noir.
