Richard Roeper and that bore clown Michael Phillips (is this guy a permanent fixture now?) have reviewed The Dark Knight on Ebert & Roeper this week and unsuprisingly it’s a completely positive review.
Roeper especially loves the damn thing calling it one of the best pictures of the year, even going so far as saying that it would be an upset if Heath Ledger WASN’T nominated for an Oscar next year. He goes on to say Christopher Nolan has created possibly the greatest superhero movie of all time and believes it also should be a Best Picture Oscar contender. He then compares it to Heat and The Departed.
It really doesn’t get much more positive than this review. If you wanna stay 100% pure for the film (which is pretty impossible at this point) then don’t watch the video below, although there aren’t really any spoilers here or anything you can’t deduce from previous footage and information.
The movie still has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, though not all the web’s reviews are on their yet (though you tell me if there is a negative review ANYWHERE!) and there has been some speculation over the weekend that the movie will become the highest opening 3 day weekend of all time.
Remember as I said a few weeks back, it’s only going to take 2 more people for every 1 that went on the opening weekend three years ago for Batman Begins for that to happen, not a feat beyond the realms of possibility. There seems to be at least twice as many fans anticipating this movie more than last time and with all those screenings sold out, it’s almost at the point where it would be surprising if it didn’t beat the record or at the very least run it close.
You lucky Americans, you get it in a few days. I personally have to wait until a week on Wednesday but I can live with that fact because we get Wall*E this week in the U.K.!
I really can’t wait it’s going to be absolutely rediculous

The New Yorker and New York Magazine have both given the film poor reviews, both based, I believe, on the bias that its a summer action movie. Plus, both have preconceived negative thoughts on Nolan and Bale. Looks like idiots who don’t get what the film is about and who already thought negatively of certain aspects of the film before it was released won’t keep it a perfectly reviewed film. Not a surprise though.

Also in the New York Magazine the Author makes references to Ledger’s performance having a negative effect in his private life, all BS. Pompous dicks. 100% on Rotten Tomatoes? The biggest film in a decade? critics will always be critics.

I’ve seen it twice already and it is amazing. No matter what unreal expectations you have for this movie walking into the theater, The Dark Knight will shatter them. This movie is a masterpiece that demands to be seen more then once. Heath Ledger’s performance is flawless, as is the story, music, direction, visual effects… EVERYTHING. Definately one of the top 5 movies of all time, and I only say that because I’m not in the mood to try to think of any better!

This film is perfect. The acting is superb, the cinematography astounding, and the direction unparalleled. There is something here for everyone (except your 6 year old!). And yes, just like 99 percent of everyone else, I was blown smooth away by Ledger’s “Joker”. I remember when I first heard he’d been cast I was sorely disappointed, almost to the point of losing interest in the film altogether. My, how I was wrong - SO wrong. I can’t honestly remember the last time I saw a performance so very moving and absolutely honest in it’s darkness, depth, and range that it made me shiver in my seat. You won’t be walking out of this movie hailing the bad guy and talking about all his nifty catch phrases and funny tricks (except maybe the pencil trick…). This bad guy is actually bad. He sits at the epicenter of some of the most unsettling conflicts of morality and conscience I’ve seen in recent film. He is completely believable as a calculated anarchist - in his own words, an “agent of chaos”. It’s utterly terrifying to watch.

Maybe it’s because we are older, but we hated this movie. Good actors, but wall to wall violence, and boring plot. Really disappointing.
We walked out about half way through. Maybe it got better in the second half?

Nice points, you really made a convincing argument. Plus you can’t say you hated the movie when you didn’t watch the whole thing, If you want to hate it because every one else likes it, then that shows that you don’t know shit about movies or at least what makes a good one.

I don’t know what movie you saw, but the plot of The Dark Knight was as gripping as any “comic-movie” that I’ve ever seen. And yes, I have seen quite a few.
