Richard Kelly has updated his blog about the goings-on with his much delayed Southland Tales. Contradicting his comments in December, he is now telling us the movie isn’t finished.
This is what he said in December….
“I am very happy with this edit, as we have done a significant amount of work to solve the rubiks cube narrative. Justin Timberlake just recorded the final voice-over this past sunday. We still have some visual effects work to do… but expect a release date and a trailer soon!”
Four months and change in the future and we still have no release date, or trailer. The following is the latest update from Kelly from his blog….
We will now be able to finish the film properly. Phew!
The film will be completely finished for the first public screening sometime mid-summer.
Thank you everyone for your patience and I will let you know when the release date is decided upon and teaser trailer will be released (work is about to begin on the marketing materials).
So I guess you must not have been entirely happy with your cut of the film late last year then?
Six years have passed since Donnie Darko became such a huge cult hit and his follow-up movie is still not completed. The once dubbed “next big thing” is sure making us wait to see his second feature.
I’ve just about stopped caring about Southland Tales. It’s very similar to what happened with Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain, which I still haven’t seen although it was one of my most anticipated movies this time last year.
It just felt like once The Fountain finally got released early this year here in the UK, my interest was gone…… I fear the same thing is going to happen here.
