Director of I, ROBOT & DARK CITY has new sci-fi projet!

Alex Proyas will transform the 1940’s Robert Heinlein sci-fi novel The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag, into a $40-50 million psychological/action thriller over at Phoenix Pictures, a similar task to what he did with Asimov’s I, Robot a few years back.

Proyas will decide whether to direct the piece once he has completed work on Knowing with Nicolas Cage, or whether he will move straight onto Dracula Year Zero.

Originally published in 1942, the offbeat tale centers on a man who becomes increasingly disturbed when he realizes he cannot account for his activities during the day, or even what he does for a living. He divulges his problem to the husband-and-wife partners of a private detective agency, and their investigation leads to a series of revelations they could never have fathomed.

Proyas claims to have read the story as a kid and it’s formed part of his “creative DNA”.

Heinlein who died in 1907, is better known for writing Starship Troopers which was transformed into a very successful movie in 1997 from Paul Verhoeven and for writing the classic Stranger in a Strange Land.
