John McTiernan, the director of the original Die Hard and it’s third movie Die Hard With a Vengeance is set to helm the action/thriller Run. The $30 million project has Pathfinder star Karl Urban locked in for the lead role.
Urban plays an Interpol agent who, while pursuing a murder suspect, uncovers a fraud conspiracy. The actioner’s script reportedly has 100 pages of car chases. Pic will start lensing in August and post in London.
100 pages of car chases? Wow. The usual formula for a script is 1 page = 1 minute, so that’s over an hour and a half of car chases! And in truth, action scenes in scripts don’t take as much room as scenes with lots of dialogue, so it could well be more than that.
McTiernan has shown in the past that he is more than capable of doing action movies. You really have to wonder why this guy wasn’t given the chance to helm the fourth installment of Die Hard. Who did he piss off?

John McTerinan was involved in a federal crimainal case a year ago. There was some private investigator, Pellicanos was the name, who was doing wiretaps on people and it turned out McTiernan, among others, was the guy who had hired him.
McTiernan wound up giving the Feds a plea of some sort and I think (don’t quote me on this) Peliicanos did a little time. I’m surprised McTiernan is working again. In a town like Hollywood where everyone is dirty what he did is a hanging offense. I LOVE the guy as a director, he’s done some of the greatest movies of the last 20 years (Predator, Hunt For Red October, Die Hard, Thomas Crown Affair) the “thinking man’s action film.” But that’s most likely why when they were making these decisions last year McTiernan’s name never came up and probably never will. So he went from 60-plus million dollar budgets to 30. From A-list name stars to “recovering rehab” also-rans. Quite a come down.
He’s in the dog house. Don’t know when he’s getting out.

Wow, I didn’t know any of that.
Thanks for that JaySmack, I did wonder why his name wasn’t mentioned around the time that Die Hard 4 was being branded around.
