IESB have exclusively revealed that British theatre actor David Murray has been cast as the villain Destro in G.I. JOE. In fact, the site go as far to say he will be the lead villain of the piece.

I’ve been able to find very little on Murray apart from the information IESB give us. Apparently if you imagine a cross between Alan Rickman and Clive Owen, this is the guy you would end up with. He’s good looking but a bit of an aristocratic snob thy say…

Destro wears a masked forged from steel and is said to be the most laid back and calm character in the JOE universe. He is also just happens to be in love with The Baroness, who we already know in the movie will be played by British actress Sienna Miller.

Don’t know Murray personally but he has a really extensive theatre background and has such esteemed roles as “Jumpy Thug” in BATMAN BEGINS (I think he’s the guy that shouted WHERE ARE YOU in that docks scene) and was “Merlin’s Lt.” in KING ARTHUR.

This is without doubt, the biggest role of his career.

Cast looks like this with filming to begin next month…

Dennis Quaid (HAWK), Arnold Vosloo (ZARTAN), Channing Tatum (DUKE), Sienna Miller (BARONESS), Ray Park (SNAKE EYES), Rachel Nicholls (SCARLETT), Adewale Akinnuoye-Abaje (HEAVY DUTY), Said Taghmaoui (BREAKER), Marlon Wayans (RIPCORD), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (REX) and Byung-hun Lee (STORM SHADOW).

My choice would have been Richard Roxburgh. He did pretty good as a masked viallin in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I know it was a crappy movie, but he has the voice and the act. Put some padding under his suit and I think he’d work out fine.
