Denzel Washington picks up THE BOOK OF ELI

Posted by Matt Holmes

Denzel Washington will star in the Book of Eli, a post apocalyptic drama that will be the next film from The Hughes Brothers who last helmed the graphic novel adaptation of From Hell some seven years ago.

Washington will play a lone hero who must fight across America to bring society the knowledge that could be key to it’s in a not-too-distant “end of the world” future. The project was first spoken about on May 22nd 2007.

DÉJÀ VU

Don’t Say A Word and Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes writer Anthony Peckham has wrote the latest draft which was first written by Akira scribe Gary Whitta.

Joel Silver is producing for the movie financed by Warners and Alcon Entertainment says Variety.

Presumably, it will be a more epic blockbuster style film, aka I Am Legend, rather than a smaller one… I couldn’t image Washington doing a Indie genre movie.

Shooting will begin in January and should be the next project for Denzel who has the remake of The Taking of Pelham 123 due out next August.

  1. The Book of Eli? Excuse me but haven’t we heard this one? Er seen this one? FREEDOM DEEP! With a new Final Directors Version about to be released and the original having screened throughout on TV and DVD what is the point? Denzel Washington? (the new Charles Bronson of mono facial expressions and reactions). The 2 directors of From Hell? What the hell? It actually took 2 directors to make that dud? Please FREEDOM DEEP is a film from the heart not the wallet! (see http://www.quietearth.us http://www.imdb.com http://www.freedomdeep.com http://www.amazon.com etc

  2. [...] The picture will mark the first time the actors, both north of 50, have ever worked together. Last we heard shooting would begin in January. [...]
