De Niro to star in “The Winter of Frankie Machine”

robert_de_niro.jpgRobert De Niro will be starring and co-producing The Winter of Frankie Machine for Paramount Pictures. The movie will be adapted from a Don Winslow novel which hasn’t even hit the book stores yet.

More info from Coming Soon

“The project is about a mob hitman who gave up the game for a quiet life as the proprietor of a bait shop. When the son of a mob boss asks for his backup to help resolve a dispute with another Mafioso, he agrees, only to find he’s been set up for a hit”.

I really like the sound of this movie. It’s quite easy to imagine De Niro as a retired hitman, just like it was in Meet the Parents to imagine him as a retired CIA agent.

De Niro’s movie choices have been a bit suspect as of late with Hide and Seek and Godsend not doing him any favours, but this movie sounds like it could be a chance for him to return to form.
