Oliver Hirshbeigel’s 2001 German hit Das Experiment is to be remade into an English language film by Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring.
The critically acclaimed original followed 20 characters who signed up for a prison simulation experiment for a cash reward. The experiment quickly gets out of hand when the tension arises with the inmates and prison guards decide to flex their authority with drastic psychological violence.
The movie was loosely based on a real experiment conducted in 1971 dubbed the “Stanford Prison Experiment”.
Sounds like a great movie, I haven’t seen the original. It’s further evidence of Hollywood remaking perfectly good foreign movies but after the success of The Departed, who knows it could work out ok? Scheuring’s Prison Break (also haven’t seen) is extremly popular and he will obviosuly be comfortable with the genre.
