The 21st century CV of Danny Elfman, particularly his score for the SPIDER-MAN movies and his recent collaborations with his great friend Tim Burton haven’t exactly been up to the glorious standard he set himself in the 80’s and 90’s, but he’s still one of the best in the business and I’m happy to hear he has been hired to compose McG’s TERMINATOR SALVATION.
Elfman revealed the news this weekend to MTV, where he answered the question on whether Brad Fiedel’s classic score from the original two movies would be incorporated…
“I think if it comes up and it seems appropriate, we will [use it],” Elman said. “And if it doesn’t, we [won't]. I never really know what to expect when I begin other than just kind of get into it and have fun. Especially a movie like “T4” – just have fun. So that’s what I intend to do.”
MTV also tells us to expect a soundtrack contribution from star/rapper Common. In the movie he plays a freedom fighter who battles Skynet alongside John Connors.

Elfman’s work on SpiderMan was absolutely stunning. Most memorable superhero theme this decade.
Everything else he’s done has been a bit pants. He’s become derivative of himself.
