British mogul Richard Branson has gone geeky on us and is aiming to bring one of his childhood favourites to the big screen. His Virgin Comics subsidiary have struck a deal to bring a new line of comic books and a feature film of forgotten British hero Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future to a whole new audience.
Dare is kind of our answer to Buck Rogers, just no-where near as cool and with even more camp. At least that’s what I remember of the character anyway, who began life in a 1950’s comic strip.
Dare is the chief pilot of the Interplanet Space Fleet who would spurt out 50’s war movie dialogue in a cheesy manner and would of course always find different solutions than violence to defeat his enemies.
Variety don’t have any more info on the planned movie except… that it’s planned. The comic book adaptation of Dan Dare is much further down the line than a feature film as the series will begin in November from leading comic-book scribe Garth Ennis. The artwork of one of the issues is shown left whilst a more classic panel of the character is below.
