There’s many different types of Westerns, we had many variations of them last year alone.
You have the Terrence Malick-like revisionist western (The Assassination of Jesse James), there’s the old school gritty Hollywood western (3:10 to Yuma), there’s the character drama (There Will Be Blood) and the Civil War Western (Seraphim Falls) but one variation of the genre we didn’t see was the Spaghetti Western.
And that just happens to be my favourite.
Last Summer we heard the Crank writing/directing duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor had struck a deal with DC Comics and Warner Bros. to bring the classic (and recently revived) Western comic character Jonah Hex to the big screen (OWF Article: July 2007).
The good news today is that the script for the movie is complete and the duo hope to get the movie off the ground once they have finished shooting Crank 2 and proudly they proclaim it to be “the best script we’ve written” in an interview with Shock Till You Drop.
Rumors persist (from a leaked script) that the supernatural and alien aspect of the character (it is a comic character after all) as mentioned by the pair in the summer has been dropped, and it’s just going to be a full out Spaghetti Western type affair.
Which I can dig very much. I’m a certainly enjoying this mini Western revival that’s taking place right now, though I do hope that with this flick the Crank guys tone down their fast paced action just a notch or two, for the sake of more character development and insight.

I don’t see the point of releasing a movie called Jonah “Hex” if they’re just gonna get rid of all that was interesting and the point of the character. Just release a damn western with no ties to the property if they really want one, just don’t f@ck up a comic property in the first place.
First Wanted now this BS, I hope it is just a rumor but I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened, DC just don’t seem to know how to handle any of their propertys (batman excluded)
