Jennifer Connelly is threatening to turn into an invisible actress. Not only is she the skinniest actress in Hollywood but her roles in Blood Diamond, Little Children and ‘from the trailers’ Reservation Road (I haven’t seen it yet) she has that bland female wife or love interest part who exists as barely more than a plot device.
Variety say that Connelly will play the Helen Benson role in the upcoming sci-fi remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, a part first played in 1951 by actress Patricia Neal.
So she shall once again have the plot device role. Sad really, remember how good she was in things like Requiem for a Dream?
Kathy Bates is also attached to the movie. Keanu Reeves is of course Klaatu, the giant robot which comes to Earth to warn us that if we humans can’t leave in peace then we shall be destroyed.
The original movie is one of the best sci-fi movies of the 50’s and one that is still very relevant today. The Exorcism of Emily Rose helmer Scott Derrickson showed promise with his first movie and has been given a big budget for this, but is he fighting a losing battle on this one?
