A few weeks ago, Thursday 21st August 2008 to be precise, I voiced my absolute shock that the “confirmed” story of Mark Strong’s casting in the high profile Guy Ritchie written and directed adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, hadn’t hit the headlines.
Ever since Robert Downey Jr. had been cast as the super sleuth detective, I thought the news of who he would be going up against as his arch nemesis would be HUGE news. It wasn’t. I don’t know if it’s because many sites hadn’t picked up on it, or maybe it was just down to the ignorance of sites like Coming Soon who didn’t want to give smaller sites credit where it was due.
[Please note I'm not talking about Obsessed With Film as that wasn't our exclusive. We just mean the original site which picked up on the story, which was Flick News, that we credited with the post].
Despite clearly Guy Ritchie confirming the story, Coming Soon gave me this response via e-mail when I told them some days later that their story that no actor had been discussed or lined up for the villain part in Sherlock Holmes was criminally false, I got this response…
Interesting Matt. I hadn’t run across that yet. It looks like it originated here, but it does say that Warner Bros. wouldn’t confirm;
