Stripper turned screenwriter Diablo Cody is stockpiling a lot of projects off the back of Juno.
That film still hasn’t hit theatres yet but there’s already a bit of Oscar buzz for the Jason Reitman directed film.
EW have profiled Cody and they go into a bit of detail on what she’s working on. Cheers to /Film for the heads up on these:
- Girly Style is a the female response to Superbad, Mason Novick is producing for Universal.
- Time and a Half is a satire on Generation X hipsters.
- Jennifer’s Body is a horror movie about a girl (played by Megan Fox) who eats boys.
- The United States of Tara is a Steven Spielberg produced comedy pilot about a woman with identity disorder who struggles to raise a dysfunctional family. Showtime is producing the series with Toni Collette attached.
- Burlesque is described as “Moulin Rouge meets Cabaret” and follows a young woman who performs in an LA burlesque club.
Cody is also contemplating directing, which is good news if you ask me. I can’t think of many great female directors working today.
“If I were a dude, I don’t know that I’d be so eager. But I feel like I have a responsibility to try because there’s such a paucity of female directors. There are worse things you can do in life than direct a bad movie.”

[...] Perhaps Heigl should hook up with Diablo Cody. JUNO looks to be a comedy with some bite and it has a female lead. Cody is also planning to write an “anti-Apatow” film, a female respone to SUPERBAD. [...]
