georgeclooney.jpgGeorge Clooney will direct and star in Leatherheads, a sporting romantic comedy set around the 1920’s world of American Football. Bridget Jones star Renee Zellweger is also in talks to star in a movie that has been stuck in development hell for a good number of years.

More info from Coming Soon

“The film has had several incarnations over the years. The original premise revolved around an aging football player who coaxes a college star to drop out and try his luck in a new professional league”.

Strange career choice from Clooney it has to be said. After Syriana and his own Oscar nominated directorial pic Good Night and Good Luck, I thought he would continue with movies of serious subject matter but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

I would have preffered a serious film from him but there’s no reason why this shouldn’t be good too.

Oh please, good God, NO MORE FOOTBALL MOVIES!!!! Every single one is exactly the same without variation.

And this one will be a football movie with George Clooney’s ever-present smirk. Not good.
